When a float turns into a hike. I did a similar trip on Bull Creek a few years ago that had more walking than I liked, but you actually did it at a slightly lower flow than I did. Thanks for the video!
I’ve spent 50 + years in and on Ozarks creeks. Those wide flat areas with bedrock on the creek bottoms are slicker than ice on asphalt in the winter. Algae always grows on them. My go to setup for creek fishing is a 1/16 oz brown rooster tail with a gold blade on an ultralight spinning rod with 4 lb test line. Even a little sunfish feels like a marlin. A decent size smallmouth feels like Moby Dick. I buy the single hook ones instead of the treble hooks. It makes it much easier to unhook those small mouths on sunfish.
Oh yeah, it was slicker than snot. I need to try those rooster tails again, have never caught one single fish on them. I am a GIANT Mepps fan and Blue Fox and Panther Martin too! I've caught hogs on all those. Maybe it's a confidence issue. I do have 5-6 Worden's Originals in the box always. I'm going to try them again next time. I'd pick a Mepps Aglia Original #3 in copper or silver undressed. Yeah, I usually take a rod with 4# (spinners) and one with 6# (soft plastics). Then I take a spare spool of 6# and one with 8# so I can move up if necessary. When the water gets that clear though, many times you are better to downsize and that 4# is hard to beat and with a spinner you can cast clear across the river. Take Care!
No trout on this trip, or in Bull Creek that I have ever heard of. There are trout over in Crane Creek further to the west and Roaring River of course. North Fork, Niangua, Roubidoux, and Little Piney Creek. Had a buddy catch one in Tory Creek one time too, I think it was an escapee from the pay trout park there.
