Thank you Insulin Umbrella for getting my all time favorite band on the channel. FM are indeed FUN. One of the best live shows you will ever see. David, listen to them more often. Life is better with FM in it. 🤙🏻
They're a tremendous live band and incredibly gracious with the crowd. Most of the band sticks around and talks with everyone after the show, except Dave (the singer) and Bridget (the fiddle player), though I met Dave at a show they co-headlined with Dropkick Murphys in upstate New York. Dave actually made a few comments at a Bethlehem, PA, show about my Clash t-shirt and really made my day.
I haven’t listened to Flogging Molly in years, but I have no idea why. Like you said, it’s not overly complicated…it’s just fun. Even their slower, more somber songs are great. It kind of gives me campfire vibes. There are so many great songs, but I think my favorite is Whistles The Wind.
One of my favorite things about songs and bands like this is that it proves that instruments like the banjo and the violin aren’t limited to their stereotypical genres of music. The banjo isn’t just folk-y country style, and the violin isn’t just classical orchestral style. Instruments like those can be rock and roll too!
I've been to two FM shows, one in a small club and another at a big festival. Both were an awesome, high-energy, exhilarating dance party with splashing Guinness and billowing dust, respectively. Highly recommended.
Having flashbacks to playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4. Such a fun, upbeat song for a song about the Troubles lol. Would like to see your reaction to Crumbling Castles by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at KEXP some point in the future. They popped up in my recommended and they had a very Tool-esque feel, if Tool had done an album on the 70s.
Is Molly being flogged or is she doing the flogging? Need to know, just saying. Thats some cool music, like Celtic punk! Groove along dude we are. Banjo solo hot damn! Steve Martin is right, it's a happy instrument. Great song just hooks you instantly, great score too! Great review!(Why do I want a drink now?)
Molly (Molly Malone's) is a bar and the band played there so often in their early days that they felt like they were "flogging it to death", thus the name 😀 I'll raise a pint of Guiness with you!
Amazing band to see live. I try to be in the front row whenever I see them. Additionally, they have a cruise, the Salty Dog Cruise, every year. I went in 2019 and it was an amazing experience!
First time I saw them was on their first European tour 2002 (if I remember well) in a small venue. I was blown away from the first song. So much fun and energy, one of the few bands that makes me dance. I’ve seen them on most of their European tours that they’ve done since and had the opportunity to talk to most band members on multiple occasions. They always take time to talk to the fans after a show especially Matt Hensley, Nathen Maxwell ans Dennis Casey.
