Communities along The Vaal are living in fear of possible flooding as heavy rains persist. Officials have had to open sluice gates at the Vaal river following Friday's rainfall. Residents are worried this could cause flooding in Rietspruit, Kliprivier, and Parys. Manqoba Mchunu is monitoring the situation. #dstv403

I'm living next to the Vaal for 53 years. In 1975 the Vaal level was +- 10m higher than normal. So that was the indicator/mark/level the Vaal gave us. Throughout the years,people never kept it in mind: not developers, agents,etc. Up to now, still people argue that the dam levels will be controlled to prevent the previous ('75) situation. Developers and estate agents stíll ignore warnigs. In person,I warned people. Still,they just carried on. People are blaming Water Affairs? No, not their fault. Open your ears; listen to the elderly....

Jy is reg Frans. I still remember the 1975 flood. The new developers and agents know who to pay and how much to bypass regulations about flood levels. Now everyone is angry at water affairs (rightly so) for not warning people downstream. I feel sorry for those affected, and I know it is terrible, but....

I have been saying that for years. There are a couple of flood lines on the books, but nobody adheres to it. This is also not the first time this is happening......

These houses were build in the eighties not now people don't listen and they don't think about the consequences if you live so close to a Dam

Well when the dam was build it was said how far up the water level could go if in flood but people and councils did not adhere to this so allowed buildings to go ahead .Money talks .

If I stop messing up, he won't hurt me again". If a god truly, unconditionally loved us, he wouldn't give babies cancer or old nuns dementia.
