Oh man, my family and I had a get together a few weeks ago and we were talking about this. Gonna have to send this to my mom she'd love this video. I was 6 at the time and still remember going on the bridge and the waves/water lapping up onto it.

I lived at 910 Pennsylvania on quality hill in 1993. It was unreal to see a whole house, big trees etc floating down the river.

I was working in Briarcliff at that time, driving everyday from Olathe. I remember being in awe of how high that river was so close to coming over Broadway by the airport, and the amazement of the level walls ( the poured concrete) holding all that water in the river.

i was there when this happened. @ 2:24 is a wall around the west bottoms business district. police were letting people drive in at their own risk, the flood would crest at 50 feet and you could literally get on a ladder and reach over that (10 or 15 feet tall) wall and touch the water. the business was open so i went in. you had to be crazy to stay down there during this but people did, if that wall had failed it would have looked like new orleans after katrina in a matter of minutes. amazingly the wall held as did the giant earth and rock levee that held billions of gallons of water. kudos the civil engineers who designed and built that levee and wall, the north side as you can see (tree line) actually relieved pressure by flooding extensively, a couple businesses were over there as well but not protected and went completely under water.

todd comer hey todd, great video, i'll never forget being in that bowl, driving out of the area you went up hill, i pulled over and was absolutely amazed the wall was holding. the river literally crested a foot or two from going over. the shape was helpful in that it was curved so there weren't any weak spots.

I don't know how there's anything left of Armourdale considering how badly it used to flood there. I think this flood is before the corp of engineers installed water pumping stations (you can seen a couple of them on the other side of the river in Argentine off strong ave) or did the upgrade to Turkey creek.

I was almost 4 at the time. Hey What was the land like before Berkeley Riverfront Park? I was always curious about that.

@@chrislinder7558 ... good to virtually meet you. We had a good time adventuring and shooting that footage. I am sure news media probably has stuff in their archives too. It was a pretty big thing.
