It's a totally different problem it would cost 100 of billions to get right where's the money comming from .We could always stop giving other countries 14 billion a year in world aid and use it here for are own people
+Paul Thomas Apparently, UK is no longer allowed to dredge and has not been able to dredge as it used to since the 1997 EU directive which aims to return waterways to some kind of ecological balance. This is here to stay as long as the EU rules over us.
+MrCopperthwaite I think you're talking about the European Waterways Framework (EWF 2000). It definitely isn't working well. The problems seem to stem from a combination of stripping hills of woodland, which help to soak up and slow down the run off from hills, from hillside sheep farming and also measures to protect grouse shooting (eg Ilkley Moor should be naturally woodland, but is artificially kept bare). Stopping dredging is madness until the hills are reforested, and even then I'm not sure that stopping dredging is/was a good idea.
