Awesome, straightforward floor design. Love that this isn't your first van, so you have an idea of what works / what doesn't from firsthand experience. I often wonder while watching others' first build videos if it's really needed to glue or adhere the different bits of floor down. Makes sense that the weight of your floor + all your living space build on top of it + the friction of such a large surface area = would hold it all in place. Just starting out on a Promaster build at the moment, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching James! Just to give you a heads up, the floor will "get wavy" if you let it bake in the sun. We haven't had any pieces pop up but we learned to put a towel down if we have the slider open and the sun is blazing.......van 1 taught us that. We've talked about gluing them down for that reason in van 3 but aren't sure that we will since it isn't really a big deal to us and we don't like nasty chemicals.
Thanks for watching! That was the only size we saw when we were building. I also saw some sheets but don't know where the price comes in comparatively. We're fairly frugal so my guess is the roll was the most economical.
Thanks for watching! That was a factory floor upgrade (that we didn't want) in this van. We re-used it in this van. Our first van didn't have it so we made a template out of cardboard. It took longer but probably saved a little money.
We didn't use any kind of adhesive. The weight of the plank floor holds the under layers in place and then the fixtures like cabinets and slide out trays in the van hold the whole floor down when its done.
Great question! We didn't use anything because we had planned for all of our fixtures to hold it down. We did anchor all of those so it was all held down nicely.
Really like how you’re not gluing anything down. I may use this for upcoming build. You mentioned being in 8 degrees, how cold do you think the floor was? Do you think indoor water tanks on the floor could freeze?
@@DrifterJourney ok great info. So you think a 30+ gallon indoor tank is capable of freezing in cold temps with your floor? I plan on cold weather use with my build. Perhaps I should insulate better? You also mention havelock not being much better at floor insulation. Thanks so much.
Really, it all depends on how cold it gets, but I'd be more worried about lines freezing in the walls than a 30 gal tank. It never hurts to insulate more if you're expecting really cold temps.
If you're going to insulate your floor, you may want to consider the rigid foam board rather than wool because once wool compresses it looses all of its insulating power
Thanks for watching! We're pretty sure we used 5 and had plenty. It holds up pretty good. It will scratch if you drag stuff (rocks) across it and it wants to warp if you let the sun beat on it directly. We had it in both vans now and would use it again. We put a towel down on van 2 when it's in bright sun. We also didn't use any adhesive. That might help. We've never had any seems pop though.
@@DrifterJourney Nice. Thanks for replying tso quickly! And did you seal the holes from where the screws that held down the floor were? If so, how did you seal them?
You guys located in Wisconsin by any chance? Lol I got the same materials you guys used but i am so bad when it comes to measurements plus I have no tools whatsoever. Having a hard time finding someone to help me out with this
LOL unfortunately we're heading to Southern California! Measure a bunch of times before you cut. Also, sometimes it helps to draw out your idea first. You'll get it!
