This is a wonderful show. Henk and Floor actually where the most trained and in some ways most accomplished singers in that season. Everybody knew Henk as the Dutch musical theater and Opera star of his era, but Floor primarily coming out of Metal was unknown to most. So when the season opened with Floor doing the Vilja song from the Merry Widow for Henk everybody was knocked back. There are some great performances from all of the artists in that season
Floor is a huge fan of Henk and that was why she did the show. It’s very sweet. You really must see all of her performances on the show. They are amazing!
The premise of the Best Zangers is to invite professional singers and let them sing songs out of their comfort zone. Floor Jansen is the lead singer of the Symphonic rock band Nightwish (check out Ghost Love Score) . This is out of her comfort zone. Henk Poort was the Phantom of the Opera in the Musical for four years and he learned the raspy singing just for her and this duet. He has been an opera and musical start for years on end. At the end of the season a winner is declared (Floor in this case) but it is not really about the competition: as you can see the other singers are very excited and supportive of the others.

Sweet Curse is actually a song from her former band ReVamp on the self titled ReVamp studio album (duet with Russell Allen). The song "Face Your Demons" for instance is from her After Forever period.
Floor Jansen is the lead singer of symphonic metal band Nightwish and very few Dutch people had heard of her until she appeared on this show. Her solo version of Shallow is superb. She has her own RU-vid channel where there are so many amazing covers plus chats with fans and vocal training. There are seven singers who each sing to each other with one on the couch each week.

Floor opened the show singing an Opera song (Vilja Lied) to Henk, whose Mother sang the song to him when he was a boy and Sound of Silence is a must too. There was another amazing singer the year before this one called Maria Fiselier. She came up on my radar because she did a cover of Eminem's song Lose Yourself from his movie 8 Mile, but she also sang an Opera song (she is an Opera singer) that is amazing called il mondo. Davina Michelle is also on that year too.
Henk Poort sang "Sounds of Silence" for Floor, but he sang the Disturbed metal version. It's so funny to hear you say he would be good in a heavy metal band. Floor is the singer of Nightwish a symphonic metal band. She displays just a tiny bit of her capabillities here. She sings operatic, but she also belts and growls. She can put some real grit if she wants. Nightwish is awesome, they have a composer, not a songwriter. You should check them out. 🤘🏽 btw I saw Floor and Henk do this live at Pinkpop in 90+ degrees weather in June. Just as good as this performance 🤩

Floor idolized Henk when she was a teenager. She did not really want to participate in this 8 part show, until she heard Henk was in it. She called this one of the highpoints in her career. The show itself evolves around 7 singers that sing to each other songs that are important for the one in the hot seat. The one in the hot seat does not sing that episode. The eighth episode is duets. Everybody sings then. You saw Floor and Henk contributing. Henk did also one with Emma Heesters that episode (the small blonde on the couch). The uniqueness of the show is that it is not a competition. It is held in the middle of nowhere (Ibiza in this case). Participants must come alone, no partner, no kids, no managers, nobody) to be able to bond with the other singers.
Others have mentioned Floor and her part in the band Nightwish, amazing singer. But to go along with this theme, Nightwish did a cover of Phantom of the Opera with the first bands singer Tarja, and she is more operatic sounding. There is a video out there with floor and Marco ( it's a fan made video, says it in the title when you search) it's a mix of a concert setting for her, and one of their concerts with tarja with the audio being just the nightwish concert with floor audio in place of tarja.
For the people who are interested in Floor. Before Nightwish she sang in several bands. She got in the charts with After Forever 'Energize Me'. I personally liked her project ReVamp. She did two awesome albums with them. The things she does with her voice there is so much more then what she does in Nightwish. I hope Nightwish will do some more writing to what Floor can do with her voice. More raw stuff. If you are more into rock Northward is a nice project of her.

This was a great reaction! Floor also sang Shallow, you should also react to that rendition. There was another one that she sang on that tv show, the song is “Winner”. Those two are my recommendation for you to react. The last one, the lyric is so powerful and the backstory of the song of how it was written... One of my favorite songs out there. And yes, The Phantom Of The Opera is a movie... But it's actually a musical based on a novel. The movie adaptation made in 2004 with Patrick Wilson is a great one. A few things: 1) There was a thunderstorm overhead when this was recorded -- so the thunder is real. 2) When this came out in 2019, it generated so many views in 24 hours, it nearly broke the internet. I don't believe any video has come close to the number of views that this video had in 24 hours. 3) Henk Poort is someone who has regularly played the Phantom in the Netherlands. In fact, Floor has said that he was her main influence in deciding to become a singer. And, Henk is who Andrew Lloyd Webber has said is his favorite Phantom. 4) The arrangement used here is the Nightwish arrangement used by the band in the End of an Era concert in 2005. 5) This performance was also what the Dutch people in the Netherlands saw, when the majority of them discovered Floor Jansen. For more than 20 years, Floor had been largely unknown -- but after Beste Zangers, no more. It was fitting, in my opinion, that the Dutch people found one of their true national treasures from a performance featuring a singer they had already known for a long time. It made me think at the time that the recognition and validation of Floor, as a singer, had been well worth the wait. Because I'm a chess nerd, and this fits: Queen to D6. Checkmate. 😂 As it is now getting to fall and Halloween, might I suggest Scaretale by Nightwish? It is one of the few songs that Annette Olzon, the singer previous to Floor, did really well (the other being Meadows of Heaven).
Ooooh people got you into Floor and Beste Zangers before actual Nightwish songs? Thats amazing and an interesting road to take. Im sure you spot the super cute lady in the red dress,that gets really emotional whenever Floor sings. Thats Emma Heesters and she became really close to Floor Jansen during this show. I think only 1 or 2 at the max knew somewhat about Floor before this show,the rest got completely mindblown by this singer they had never heard of,and promised to google her,symphonic metal and her bands as soon as they got back home. Every artist could not believe it when they heard her sing during this season of Beste Zangers. (Its not a competition like many thinks,each artist gets 1 full week where the other artsist does covers of either one of that artist own songs,or favourite songs of theyrs. So it is a complete celebration of music and eachother as artists,we had our own version of it here for quite some seasons already,here it is called "Each Time We Meet". They share stories around the couches and table with eachother,and celebrate and honor eachother. Defintly something the music industry needs in my opinion. Back to Emma,she shares a touchy subject with Floor. And it is regarding theyr moms. Emmas mom is a breast cancer survivor,and Floors mom has several things going with her,but the most painful one is rheumatism. This had such a impact on Floor,that she decided to write a song for her mom while in After Forever (Floors first ever band,joined them as still a teenager) The song is called Strong,and Emma embraced that song from the moment she heard it. It was an easy choice for Emma on what song she wanted to perform for Floor. I call it this seasons strongest moment and performance. Emma won me over with that performance,and here is a funfact: This was Emmas first time ever on the big screen,she had never done a TV show before. She has mainly done cover videos on RU-vid,where she has perfected her microphone technique,to a point where people think its playback shes doing. But shes just that good! Alot of practice over the years. But remember plenty of tissues if you give Emma Heesters - Strong a try. And if you for some reason after this,want to give Emma more love and attention. I see people has already mentioned her duet with Henk Poort - Vivo Per Lei. But i also want to suggest her honoring Henk Poort with one of his alltime favourite songs: Sex Machine by James Brown. Emma admitted that being in this show was nerve wrecking and totally out of her comfort zone....but in her TV debut she showed absolutely no signs of being a first timer. And she totally made her own take on Sex Machine,wich had an impact on every artist in the couch. What exactly i cant say,as it would be a spoiler. But if Strong and Vivo Per Lei will make you emotional,Sex Machine will make you smile,maybe even laugh a little and lift your overall mood. Emma was the biggest surprise in this season,and left the biggest mark on me. So whenever i see Beste Zangers reactions i have to suggest her. Additional info about Strong: Performing this song has proven to be the biggest struggle for Floor over the years. At certain parts in the song she always seem to brake,as the memories of her mom in pain takes over. So just imagine how it felt like hearing someone else perform this song for her. Beste Zangers is a show where singers sing for other singers. All shows except one are them singing solo. The exception is this one where they sing duets. Nobody knows what the other(s) have rehearsed.

Phantom of the opera is a Musical, its not an opera. And yes the musical is something that you should see. But now when you heard Floor sing some high notes. Take a look at her version of Shallow from that show, best singer. And then you should check out the contrast and watch her sing Yours is an empty hope with nightwish.
