Floor transfer
How I typically get back into my chair from the floor. This took me some time to learn. Practice makes it a lot easier! I learned strategies from failing and trying over and over again!

Hi Jack, how are you feeling buddy? Keep better Jack. God bless you Jack. Let me have you in my prayers… so sorry to hear that you’re paralysed Jack. But now you can walk somehow by yourself Jack. I like you a lot as a great friend Jack. Best friend as always, from, PaulLaw.

Would you say that the remaining muscle tone in your legs is an advantage when you do transfers like that or rather an impediment?

Daniel Lea Great question! Hmm..it's good and it also can make things more difficult. Like, the tone makes it harder for me to move my leg than if it had no tone. If it had no tone, it would be floppy and not nearly as helpful when trying to get it to stay still when lifting up into my chair during the floor transfer. It's good to have a happy medium! Having floppy legs is not ideal, nor is having legs that spasm a lot or contain a strong amount of tone. So, somewhere between those two is where I like to have my tone. Everyone is different and prefers different tones. If you have muscle tone, I'd recommend you talk with a doctor and see what medication options or procedures there are if it badly effects the way you move around. If you are able to do things the way you like right now, I'd say stay where you're at and practice techniques and embrace what you've got! I hope I answered your question!

JackInAction Thanks for that very well-elaborated response! I myself am not paralyzed but I have some friends and acquaintances who do wheelchair sports. And I wondered because I hear some people take various kinds of medication to calm tone and spasms if it gets to a point where it is painful or disabling. Learnt something new! Thanks again!

Transferring from the wheelchair to the floor isn’t easy. Every time when you practise it makes it a lot easier. Well done for posting your videos Jack. Kind regards, from, PaulLaw.

Hey! Yes, I'm a T11 incomplete (I can feel some extreme hot and cold / extreme pressure below my point of injury) with a burst fracture at T9.
