Flora, I have been a Genesis Fan since I was 17. Now I am 61 and you just did something amazing. You would make Peter Gabriel and Tony Banks smile and a tear for good luck. You can do anything, please never stop. We love your version of Firth of Fifth. God Bless
Johnny you are absolutely dead on! This was beautifully done and I could only wish I had her talent. Flora, you are someone special. Thank you for version!
Flora, I am a special needs teacher ,teaching non verbal autistic children. I just wanted you to know I play your version of Firth of Fifth for them everyday after lunch. They absolutely love it, one student actually sits right next to the speaker. Your talent has reached them ,they are so happy when we put it on, Thank You so much.. From myself and my students Micah,Jacob,David,Jared and Lexan
I personally think its the classical nature of the song along with Floras voice ,it just seems to capture them...but they love it, I also play some ELO like telephone line and when I was a boy....they enjoy it all....
Rich, it just so happens I'm comming up on my 5th year into my Elementary Education degree! I like this version too! Genesis's original version kicks, but so does this one too!
Flora, I hope where you live gets better, or leave it! The USA is for people moving up! Never should someone who performs like you should live in a squaller of a nation! ...and I usually never say that to anyone for obvious reasons!
I'm 62, huge fan of Genesis and other progressive rock bands of the 70s, and this is my favorite Genesis tune. Well, I absolutely love this version of yours. You nailed it. I would like to know what does Tony Banks think about what you've done with this masterpiece.
You are a true musician. Somewhere, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett, Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins are smiling happily. As am I. Outstanding.
The path is clear Though no eyes can see The course laid down long before And so with gods and men The sheep remain inside their pen Though many times they've seen the way to leave [Verse 2] He rides majestic Past homes of men Who care not or gaze with joy To see reflected there The trees, the sky, the lily fair The scene of death is lying just below [Bridge] The mountain cuts off the town from view Like a cancer growth is removed by skill Let it be revealed A waterfall, his madrigal An inland sea, his symphony [Verse 3] Undinal songs Urge the sailors on 'Til lured by the sirens' cry [Instrumental interlude] [Verse 4] Now as the river dissolves in sea So Neptune has claimed another soul And so with gods and men The sheep remain inside their pen Until the shepherd leads his flock away The sands of time were eroded by The river of constant change
always loved the piano intro on this...good job. always said nobody could better tony banks when it comes chords. its more than just a break between time sig's, tony could come up with these wonderful bridges.
Spot on, that. I'm not a huge fan of AW, as it goes (apart from a couple of songs) but I'm sure Flora will find her own voice as she goes on. Whatever, it's SO nice to hear that early 70s Genesis vibe being channelled so beautifully by someone who was only a twinkle in her father's eye back then. Well done that girl!
I'm an old Genesis fan (almost 60 years old), and an old piano player. I know how difficult this song is to play, yet you make it look so easy, I almost fell in love with you ....! :-)
Same for me, I'm 58. I remember hearing this in '73 and it has been my favourite 'music' by Genesis since (Carpet Crawlers is my favourite song). Never thought I would like anyone else playing this but Flora is amazing. She has the sensitivity of Banks himself.
I must admit, this was not one of my favourite prog rock songs (stupid me), but upon hearing this I'm now in love with the original (and your rendition too, of course). Greetings from Russia to one dazzlingly beautiful woman with a good musical taste!
@@floracavina CHAPEAU with FRANKESTEIN. Spectacular performance. Clever understanding of the piano reduction, calling the melodies all together on the keyboard. CHAPEAU! Perhaps the only thing in the song cover that does not fit is Amy Winehouse's vocal style, which, more than an aggiornamento of the song, seems a Frankenstein. Sorry for the criticism.
I am always searching for Genesis on RU-vid and was floored when I heard Flora's cover of Firth of Fifth. This was as good as it gets and I will search for Flora now. Just blown away and judging by the other comments, everyone else is too. Thank you.
MayB Flora you should try the lamb lies down on broadway (i mean the opening song).i think it could suit U very well... (i m a french producer from Paris)yours.
Dear Flora, what an astonishing cover you’ve done, here. Beautiful just doesn’t say enough, but never stop doing what you love. Try to travel and journal; make notes and write lyrics; your gift is *so* apparent. You have just a sprinkle of Amy Winehouse, but still, it’s all you. Fare well on all of your journeys. ❤
Flora Flora, you are a beautiful person and a great musician. As a Genesis fanatic i love your cover of this lovely track. GREAT! Try Can Utility and the Coast liners. Sorry if you have already done it!xxxxx
This is one of the very few songs that I can listen over and over again and I still feel the same than in 1976 (my first listening). It's great to watch how young people like this kind of music. Thank you.
This is a gobsmacking performance of the masterpiece of The Genesis greatly arrenged and beautifully interpreted! I am lost for words! To think that you weren't even born when the Genesis published this song makes me think of the true meaning of immortal music! Bravissima!
I first watched this video back in 2016 when you uploaded it and i really disliked it, didn't know why really. Now i understand that i was really jealous of your talent haha. Thankfully i came across this video today and now i can really appreciate this. Excellent effort. I myself i'm trying to learn the song entirely to play in a band. Cheers!
Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!! This what I listened to when I was 16 years old & still even older than that !!!! "NOT" RAP CRAP !!!! This is what music is. Music ? It has a Melody !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Flora ! Very talented and good looking young lady ! Please continu to play with you're heart and soul ! People will want to pay expensive tickets to see you play in a near futur ! Good Luck and keep up practicing ! :)
Speechless...... I've heard both the Studio and Second's out version, but this is on the next level. A+ on the hand positioning, as well as the emotional vocal performance. Almost like she's Channeling Amy Winehouse as well. God What would she sound like with a Band . Probably goes without saying.. Gods will be Gods. reuven lawrence engberg
Amazing, wunderbar, excellent, its soooo gooood. I am almost 70 Years old, no, young and in 1977 i was on the “Second Out“ Tour from Genesis, in Cologne Germany and i felt such a Joy in me, i cant explain. But the way you played this, was a real Pleasure for me. Thank you so much. Ouer Lord JESUS bless you. Greetings from Lamspringe Germany. John 3, 16
Absolutely awesome!, its almost as if that piano was created for you, and your voice!! I enjoyed every second and I'm sure the band will be in awe also with your tribute.
Amazing job! I am a huge Genesis fan and you did this song justice! And I am very critical being a musician myself. Love your voice and now will have to follow you. Keep up making wonderful music.
U really should try the opening song of"the lamb lies down on broadway",Flora!i think U could even more express your voice inside! And mayb drives it into a bluesy way...!(i m a french producer from Paris).
Sono cresciuto con la musica dei Genesis Flora e ti posso dire senza ombra di dubbio che questa è la più bella Cover di Firth of Fifth eseguita al solo pianoforte che ho mai ascoltato. Veramente COMPLIMENTI! Continua così! Mi fa veramente piacere che giovane come sei suoni i Genesis! Pochi ormai sanno cosa sono stati... Grazie Flora! Buona MUSICA.
Ure amazing Flora ... never give-up!!
I avoided looking at this for ages, thinking it would be the usual RU-vid no-talent pile of poo. But actually it was pretty damn good. Glad I watched it now.
Una bella sorpresa questa mattina nel sentire un tuo inedito....! Consiglio di ascoltarlo in cuffia per coglierne la bellezza. Mi piace. Un saluto. Mariano
Thank you, FLORA. I'm stunned and blown away. I've loved GENESIS since I first heard Nursery Cryme when I was only 14, many moons ago. I've always felt that FIRTH of FIFTH was the most BEAUTIFUL PIANO composition TONY BANKS ever did with Genesis. You perform it with LOVE and PASSION, FAITHFULLY executing the song with sensitivity and a genuine devotion to the spirit of Genesis. I THANK YOU from the bottom of my Genesis-loving HEART.
I've been a die-hard fan of Genesis for almost a half century now, and simply giving this a thumbs up seems so inadequate. Absolutely enchanting. Superb rendition Flora.
I'm learning this piano piece now, and I'm a pretty experienced piano player but finding it quite tricky. I have to congratulate you on playing it flawlessly and making it look so easy. Beautiful vocal interpretation too!
You are absolutely brilliant. Your cover of Firth of Fifth adds so much to the original Banks/Gabriel song, in terms of key, harmonics and use of the sustain pedal which were absent on the original. If Genesis haven't contacted you, please contact them, as you have something uniquie to give, and I hope that they would help you in your career. Alternatively contact the Royal College of Music in London. That is where the best musicians study. They take students from all over the world. They should come to you to hear your audition. No other rendition, comes close to yours, that I have seen anywhere, including Genesis. Well done.
Yeah, Sometimes writing something cool doesn't mean you can actually play it. Big gaps between head and hands in most cases. Must be a relief to finally hear someone do it the way you couldn't.
Wow, did NOT expect such a friendly comment section. In my experience there are always some hardcore Genesis fans giving a very hard time to anyone who is not Peter Gabriel (even if it is a certain Phil Collins). Nice cover, even if it is not on always exactly on pitch.
Her playing is impeccable for sure. I do have a minor criticism about her mangling of the English language. I think this would have really been awesome if she just sang it in her native tongue.
Thanks Flora, I'm In Love With The Way In You Play Firth Of Fifth (With Absolute Mastery). I'm A Genesis Fan And I Will Ever Say This Is The Best Firth Of Fifth Cover I've Ever Seen And Heard, I Absolutely Love It!!!!! Greetings!!!!! 🎹🎤💯
Thank you so much for your lovely words Ismael! Here you can find my original songs, tell me what you think about it :) open.spotify.com/album/03vY5u5D9bbhrNgfI8rSiF?si=CtH2KE5BTFyKwQQKse7Alg
Thanks For Your Answer Flora, I've Been Listening To Your Original Songs During The Morning And I Think They Are All Excellent & Very Beautiful. I Absolutely Love Them. You Are A Pure Genius & You Play The Piano And Sing With Mastery!!!!! Greetings!!!!! 😊🎹💯
I'm 38 - grew up with Genesis. Heard an excerpt of Firth for the first time as part of the Old Medley live in 92. It's been my favorite song ever since. I've listened to every version I can find. Played as much as I can (drummer) Well done. I cried, cheered, had chills from your cover. I gotta learn piano one of these days. Learning to play Tony's masterpiece on keys would be sheer joy.
