Most people don’t have a boat to train. Training typically takes place along the coast, hopefully close enough to the shore to get in quickly if something ever happened. The boat for the race for each racer is primarily for safety and resupply. They carry fuel and nutrition for the athletes, they help with navigation, encouragement and are ultimately there in case anything was to go wrong.
@@potokito82I can definitely see the financial obligation stopping people. Safety is always the most important thing though and I’m not sure of a better way to do it. Sharing boats is cool but racers would need to stay together.
Surfing ruined my life...because...now every other lifestyle option simply pales in comparison and although waves are essentially free, living by a good year around surf beach in Southern California is not !!! Go OB San Diego!!! Dog Jetty to Sunset Cliffs!!!
Respect to all waterman and warriors in the ocean, but John you are a amazing once in a lifetime surfer but also a amazing all around waterman. And the Florence name will always be connected to what it means to be a A+ high level waterman. Hope nothing but success in the new business ventures and the products I think reflect the passion for the ocean you guys have.
I shipped my Bark 14' prone custom to Puerto Rico. Paddling the coast along Tres Palmas Marine Reserve is one of the greatest joys of my life. Mad respect to the Bark family.

Congratulations to the Bark family. The Florence video is an awesome tribute to the Catalina Classic and sport of paddling and the watermen who pursue their dreams. I have personally been a part of the Classic through the years, escorting paddlers like Matt Walls and Scott Rusher, two time finisher 2007 and 2008, being 63 my first crossing '07, in real 'shit' conditions (8hrs15min) and '08 in beautiful conditions (6hrs32min), "Wounded Warriors", Camp Pendleton twice with a relay team of Marines and watermen volunteers. I have met and traveled to Hawaii twice, Australia and France, as well as San Francisco and south to San Diego.with some amazing athletes, Joe, you among them, Jamie Mitchell, Tim Ritter (Hennessey Races) too many more to list. The camaraderie is unreal. I have done the Classic side by side finish in '08 with my son-in-law Dave Anderso, R-10 race twice with grandsons Braedon and Max Anderson. Being a surfer, sailor, paddler, I have some of my best life experiences on the ocean. Congratulations to Jack for his performance last Sunday and then following it with Gemma's first in women's. Well done Bark family.
