On this episode of Florida Roadside Attractions we board the SS American Victory Ship & Museum. It was like traveling back in time to 1945! This Merchant Marines cargo ship served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. @CristheGirl
Maybe I say this every time... but this is actually one of my most fav vids we have done together so far. Your video turned out so good!! I loved it!! I KNEW you would do more history and facts than I did! :) It was so much fun climbing all over everything, trying on hats, spending a large amount of time in the spooky shower, and pretending to know any amount of information regarding boats. Thank you for taking me here babe, I had a boat-load of fun!!
My dad was in the Navy during WW2. He did not serve on any ships, but was training to be a Navy pilot. Neat WW2 history with that ship. Thanks for sharing.
This video was great! You and Cris are so enjoyable and the tour was very informative. Cris is hilarious, so loveable and relatable. We discover a new Cris phobia in almost every video. Talking about her experience as a Disney boat captain made me laugh.
Hey Jay, great video. I remember the Halloween video on that ship ! . The Navy has been an integral part of our family for 3 different generations! Its amazing, my brother enlisted @ age 18 and came out years later as a Navy pilot! My dad was a career Navy man and my nephew is on a ship now. #gonavy
I totally geeked out watching this. I need to swing by Tampa next vacation haven't been in years, definitely will pay the American Victory a visit. Great vid!
I'm adding this one on my Local attractions to visit. I'm really surprised they don't have an old Warship with this there, but the maintenance is murder on the pocketbooks for those groups who do that. Great video both of you!
Great vlog!..Chris was loving it at the end she says 1st any only time..assuming it wasn't her thing.love she went to support..keep up the great vlogs.
Great video, Tampa Jay! You are correct about the fact that there is one other operational Victory Ship in the United States. It's located in the Port of Los Angeles.
Have you seen what is happening to our local WWII Warship called the USS The Sullivans, it has major damage in its hull and has been taking on water for over a week. I live in western ny by the way. Ours is very haunted and very nice inside, I have been there many times in the summer and even toured it when I was little and saw a barrier to block off a section you could not enter move with no breeze and even picked up evp’s while we were there in the summer. You guys are sooo cute together . Great vlog guys.
TAMPA Giant Exploding Chicken Sculpture, on the list. 45:45 IRON MAN CAN. I miss Shiny Cans like that, at least in the West. Love Florida Ports, Forts, and Ships. Always surprising the Story of Florida Shores in Wars. So often untaught in History. Thanks for the Peacetime Tour!
I think I missed the Halloween video of this ship. I bet it was terrifying, especially now that I saw Cris saying how people passed on the ship and she could sense things, double terrifying but such awesome videos from both of you!! 🤘🏻👏🏼👍🏻
Where the Captain puts his "STOGEY" is a Voice tube, used to communicate orders short distances between compartments, typically by the Captain or Officer of the Deck, the officer in charge of the ship at that time.
MY Uncle served in the USN during WW2 and Dad was in the Phillipines as a paratrooper in WW2, kind of wondering if My Uncle served on this exact ship..would be something to maybe check out,,I have his navy uniform, and Navy Bible they gve the sailors when they sailed off to war..This was a spectacular video Jay,,,Just loved it,,
This is amazing! I went to the Florida Aquarium 2 years ago and seen this ship parked behind, my eyes popped at the size of it, have to aboard this summer 🤩
Great vid jay!! Keep up the great content man!! All the best sir. BTW i still havent seen that bday devil rays snapback cris the girl got ya. Did u wear it yet?
I visited and explored around aboard the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 3 2022. Yes, she's a large ship so there was plenty of climbing up and down ladders while also carefully working my way through narrow passageways. We shouldn't forget about low overheads for tall people, me, to avoid hitting their heads on. They have the Tom Cruise F-14 Tomcat from Top Gun on her flight deck. I was walking along a non working escalator on one lower deck with other visitors and jokingly called, " All hands to battle stations. I repeat, all hands to battle stations. Incoming enemy aircraft off the port bow. "
This Video was so good! I Dont Remember if it was This Ship or Another Attraction in FL of warship i went on it with my grandpa when i was like idk 6 lol and got to tour the whole thing and see all the rooms, kitchen and weapons' and big guns on the ship and everything. All I Know the Next day he took me to the Space Camp Place so Maybe the Ship was Over There Somewhere. lol the ending, you guys are adorable!
toured the 'YORKTOWN" in south Carolina, and saw all the planes, and toured the middle of the ship, as my brother served aboard an air craft carrier for three yrs in the Navy back in the early 90's, anyway if you get a chance go out to that one for video documentation, i'll save the rest of the info for you to find out about...NO SPOILERS...and it's (gyro)scope pronounced with a J...your splecome.
I don`t think those Mini Subs were seaworthy enough to cross the Atlantic Ocean and patrol the Gulf of Mexico. However, the regular&larger fleet sized subs did!
i like old ww2 ship my uncle was ship back ww2 he call it small ship tincan also have cousin in 50's ship too war ty tempabay for video i just goggle the carnival on on the cruise right now
Considering it being a warship i wonder if the SS American Victory is haunted oh yeah speaking of old ships Jay & Cris the Girl have either of or both of you ever been to the Queen Mary ship in California?
Dam boy very nice lady I see you not as a kid into baseball too a nice looking young man she really makes you look good yall look good together now about them subs they sunk ships all upp and down the east coast my folks lived in Ft Pierce at that time my dad said before he went into the army they captured a German sub of Ft Pierce and it had fresh bread from the bakery in Ft Pierce
Jay, if you were my son, I would tell you to get a shave and a hair cut. You have been so clean cut, what's up with this unkept look? Yup, I am old enough to be your mom, I'm 61.
