A commuter rail line that could connect Lakeland and Orlando is one step closer. This isn’t the high-speed Brightline, it’s SunRail.
FOX 13 Tampa Bay brings you the important videos like breaking news, Tampa Bay weather, and local stories. But also plenty of fun stuff, like 'We Live Here' tips, the best of our archives, and all those 'only-in-Florida' stories.

They need to take the train route. Exapnding highways does not work and has proven over and over that adding lanes only adds more traffic. Adding more viable means of transportation will always win, even if it comes at a slightly higher initial cost.

eventually all the little train lines will be connected and any areas left out will be left behind. We have to think far into the future

I say Tampa should have their own commuter rail system, and transfer in someplace like Auburndale. Downtown Plant City and Lakeland currently stand in the way of SunRail expansion. Even without SunRail those cities stand in the way of second tracks along the Lakeland and Carters Subdivisions.

This is a great idea, instead of a station at SR 570/Polk County it should be at Winter Haven

There is actually a section of I-4 that truly needs more lanes in Polk County, and they need to be built properly. And the reason that they're needed is because the recent construction project relocated the ramps at the rest areas too close to the nearby rebuilt Exit 48.

Yeah with no stops at I-Drive or Disney(though for Florida residents this isn't as big an issue because we largely hate Disney) people will not ride it. I-Drive has the Orlando Convention Center and many large hotels where conventions are held every year and if I can't get on the train in and have it drop me close to the area then I have no reason to ride it.

You can keep adding lanes to the highways like Houston Texas does, but in just a few years, they’ll be just as crowded again, it’s because more subdivisions are built all the time so more cars come Only way to solve that is put more money toward public transportation such as trains and make it convenient for people to take them so just parking or other public transportation to reach the train stop etc. I personally would take it and I take it sometimes already because I don’t drive the toll road. It’s too stressful for me. Even people who don’t like trains, or would never take them would find the highways or less crowded when some of the people take them.

If commuter rail doesn't get people to within easy walking distance of where they want to go, it's a non-starter. If getting the rail to where it needs to be, you can try an express bus service, but that service will need to be on point with stops as close to the employee gates as they can be.

How can bus service be added in an area with traffic issues?
@enjoystraveling
@enjoystraveling Месяц назад
@@DaleC. The bus service would just be a short distance to places such as main street and a small town and the train would be the long distance

Stop building homes. We have enough people here. The train isnt the answer. Planning commission just keeps building and making the traffic worse and worse. They've ruined this area. I4 is now like the freeway in California.

I believe the voters have spoken already it is No Thank You.
@ImpendingJoker

Actually High Speed Rail between Tampa and Orlando along the I-4 corridor was overwhelmingly voted for by the state. It was Disney that killed it. So no, the voters didn't say no thank you. Disney said, "If it doesn't stop only at us, then it doesn't stop at us at all", and since that was one of the primary reasons for the service in the first place, they canx the whole thing. Brightline came in and told Disney to screw off, which is why it doesn't stop at Disney at all right now. Disney is seeing a huge drop in theme park visitors because of the stuff they've done to themselves and now is talking to Brightline about adding a stop when they expand it to the west to Tampa/St.Pete because Disney knows they are not the only reason people go to Orlando now and are losing money because of it. So again, the voters wanted it, Disney killed it.
@ThomasGunn45won
@ThomasGunn45won 10 месяцев назад
@ImpendingJoker we the people voted for the bullet train to be installed. Until the project to open up the i4 Corridor went over budget and time promised to complete project. Someone maybe Disney put it back on the ballot 4 years later, and We the people Decided it wasn't worth the time and money that it was going to cost the taxpayers. Just like the buses in my town here in Florida are unprofitable. A train from Lakeland to Orlando would be very unprofitable and unridden.
