I see the argument for not glorifying an injury by showing it. But in an educational setting, it’s hard to illustrate what you’re talking about by not showing it. If it’s a monetization thing than that’s another story.
@BrianSuttererMD
@BrianSuttererMD 6 месяцев назад
It’s both. Would get demonetized and then that makes views plummet. So in this case showing the break doesn’t add to the explanation and so I chose not to

It's crazy that, infections notwithstanding, an injury like this can have a quicker and easier recovery than an ACL tear, which sometimes doesn't look like much of anything, and even doesn't really hurt sometimes.

I was one of the EMTs on the crew staged next to the court. Our crew was a Paramedic, another AEMT and I. We work for Vanderbilt LifeFlight and have our own Event Medicine division. We continually train for the very rare occasion where we have to go out in the spotlight and preform our job. We were staged right next to the court and we’re watching and waiting for our signal from the athletic trainers to come on to the court. Our stretcher is ready with all the pertinent equipment, including the vacuum splint you noticed. I would love to talk more.

Broke my leg in a similar manner a few years ago. Fortunately it did not break the skin, though the mental trauma as briefly mentioned was easily the most difficult part of recovery. I'd always found it crazy how such a dramatic break could occur from such a relatively benign action, and this video was the first time I had ever considered the rotational forces at play -- my doctors were great don't get me wrong, but their focus was rightfully on treatment rather than explanation. I've long since gotten over the mental challenges of being able to push off that leg when running again, but I've never really gotten a clear explanation for how the injury occurred in the first place. Thank you for giving me one.

This kinda thing hits me really hard. When pros get hurt it’s tragic and terrible but they’re usually rich they have money fame success for the most part. When a young kid or a college student athlete gets injured it’s extra sad because they don’t have that security that stability so the effect can be so much worse; their career can be over and their life altered in a major way. Hope he’s ok and can get back to doing great things on and off the court really soon.

If you just crack the tibia (like I did), it will really hurt for a few weeks, but the body does a great job of mending itself if you stay off it. A fractured tibia, much less a compound fracture, is more of where Brian comes in.

Being a college basketball fan, I also remember the Kevin Ware injury. If i remember correctly, people were theorizing that he had a undiagnosed stress fracture from playing so much. Both injuries happened later in the year, is there any possibility that Micah may have had some sort of stress fracture or other pre-existing injury? The gators were playing something like their fourth or fifth game in a week. And then to follow that up, is there anything (short of reducing playing time/number of games) that a team can do to minimize these types of injuries? Cautionary X-rays? Pre-hab exercises? Great video, thanks!

@janwilliams3841 Jan, do you measure your IQ in fractions my friend? Where, in any of my comments, have I discussed the desire of excessively "indulging" or "engorging" myself in replays of this specific incident or any other "similar type" incidents? If you took the time to read my initial comment, I addressed not being macabre or lurid about it. Reading comprehension can be very helpful when it's employed my friend! The problem with having an interaction or "conversation" with complacent and presumptuous minds like yourself is, you are completely utilizing conjecture and speculation on how I think about this topic. No questions asked, or clarifications inquired about, just assumptions made. Most comment sections are permeated by juvenile and uneducated minds, who have very little, to no argumentative skills and techniques and, who are only looking for a "gotcha" comment moment or, turning a discussion into a "pissing contest" because this Matrix we live under, has turned them into a mob of unnecessary emotional duplicates with no thinking skills.

I have avoided "gruesome" injuries on this channel due to simply being a bit sqeamish. both not showing the clip and kind of censoring out the injury really makes me able to learn about this without the horrible imagery. It kind of tricks my brain into not becoming sqeamish, also gives you better exposure, so you can get more support. I see no downside since this is for the general public, not for a paid medical class.

Hey Dr! Sports betting is a thing and now that players and professional leagues are promoting DraftKings and FanDuel etc, I was wondering (with your expertise) are fake injuries also noticeable? I ask because I’m an avid sports gambler but certain “injuries” are questionable. The player who gets hurt is over owned on platforms and magically “an end of the bench player” shows up in the optimal with minimal ownership. Love your channel and explanations on things. Especially on Andre Robinson patellar tendon rupture. That’s happen to me once in a pickup game and the other on ice.

Could his trainers (sneakers) be a cause, I noticed just before he jumped his right foot planting was odd because of the way his foot was planted in his shoe , like the shoe was flat but his leg was leaning inwards. Feels like when he landed he shoe planted but the rest of him shifted , so his shoe acted as an anchor but his body was still moving. His sneakers looked like they weren't a good fit. It's like when you run , if you go to a specialist sneaker shop they take a video of how your feet plant down and they pick the right sneakers , some people are flat footed or go more down on the instep etc.. and if you don't get the correct sneakers for your feet you can get injuries , I imagine if you jump and your sneakers are slightly too big and you land there is still room to shift your weight even though the shoe has planted

I would love for you to talk about how to prevent all kind of injuries from happening. As you said the tibia is not suited for rotational forces so im gonna be very cautious next time im landing to not be twisting as much in the air. Like when rolling an ankle most of us that play casually will try to support the ankle or even go to the ground just to protect that ankle. So would be nice to know how to prevent the injuries by adjusting when falling so we can minimize serious damage. Much love.
