ACC's Bold Move: Could a New Settlement Reshape College Sports?
The ACC is considering a groundbreaking settlement that could alter the landscape of college sports. This proposal, involving Florida State and Clemson, aims to shorten the grant of rights to 2030 and adjust revenue distribution based on TV ratings. However, passing this settlement requires a challenging two-thirds majority vote from ACC members, highlighting the diverse interests at play.
Listeners will gain insights into Florida State's upcoming clash with Cal, where the Seminoles are favored despite a rocky start. The episode also explores potential upsets in ACC matchups, including Virginia vs. Coastal Carolina and Miami vs. USF. Additionally, the TCU vs. SMU rivalry heats up with the Dallas mayor's bold support for SMU.
Tune in for an engaging analysis of these pivotal developments and their implications for the ACC's future.

What this means is that FSU/Clemson don’t have a P2 landing spot. This also means that other ACC schools with possible P2 landing spots have a chance to leave when other tv media deals are up. Don’t be surprised if FSU & NCSt get AAU by 2030.

It means they don’t have a landing spot NOW, but at some point the big two conferences WILL expand… and FSU and Clemson will be 2 of the most attractive teams.
@richardsomebody996

What Kenton is missing is that the game has changed with pay for play and the disadvantages that conferences would occur if competing against schools that can throw money at players and coaches as well as facilities. If the separation continues to become greater, then all conferences will only be feeder systems to the conferences with the most money.

No... this is all about saving face as there is no place to land for now. I can see a performance bonus... other than that... go pound sand. If FSU and CU want more revenue... figure out a way to generate it on your own.

They signed the grant of rights but they did not give permission for the ACC to extend the window for ESPN to option. The original agreement has expired.

Sure.....without FSU & FSU Twitter, the ACC eyes on the product will GO DOWN. Even starting 0-3, FSU is leading ratings.

@@princebowie9950 culture around FSU has trickled down to their players - it’s a drag to be associated with it - but seeing Cal get national attention and loving life in ACC - who knows,in long term ACC may be better off

This appears to me to be a desperate effort to get out of the litigation by re-packaging an already voted down by the members a concept of paying members for being members. Imagine any conference adopting this type of settlement. This is a giant nothing burger that has no chance of passing muster with the members. Any agreement changing the underlying grant of rights and payout schedules that favor one member over the other members must be approved by 2/3 of all the members, not ever going to pass. Maybe a preformance based incentives open equally to all members for being ranked each week in the AP 25 Getting to the ACC championship winning the ACC championship getting selected as a playoff team winning a playoff game getting to the championship game. becomming the national championship would have a reasonable chance of being accepted by enough members. So if people are hate watching FSU they should be paid more??? How about the wins.

It’s been reported that the members will not receive less than they currently make. ESPN is kicking in additional funds to distribute to the higher tv rated schools. It’s NOT the plan that was rejected by the members when an unequal revenue model was first introduced.

It's hard for me to believe the ACC would ever willingly shorten the length of the GOR. I'll believe it when I see it.

Noone is talking about TNT/TBS wanting a bigger foot print in college football.. 2026 when NBA contract expires.. 5-7 billion to throw around.. they could offer the new pac12 at a minimum 40 mil per team per year..and could force ESPN hand with ACC ... And offer SEC /Big 10 money... And still have 5-6 billion left over.. just a thought

One would like that part of the settlement would be not sue the conference and the ACC should put in penalty if they try to sue to get out of the GOR again. I think the ACC wants stability within the conference.

When ESPN doesn’t renew the contract next year, those small schools will not have anything close to what they would be getting

With the current economy, NIL, and traveling further to play new teams due to expansion. I would think to be competitive and stay relevant, it simply takes more money. It's like working a job and not getting a raise for several years.

The losers of the deal would be the less-watched teams of the ACC. FSU and Clemson don't necessarily want to leave, they just want to make more money. And the ACC wants them around because they drive ratings and bargaining power with ESPN. Both of these sides come away with some of what they wanted, while smaller brands who weren't involved with the lawsuit will now be paid less.

Down years for clemson an florida st now. Just to make more money they wouldn't even finish mid pack in sec now. Wont hear much about wanting out now.

As far as the Cal vs FSU match. FSU should be desperate to save their pride, their season and their future. CAL sees this game as Existential on the path they MUST have to renew the Brand and save their PROGRAM. 4-0 College Game day at Home vs Miami potentially is on the line for Cal & coach Justin Wilcox.

Their problem is QB. Big time. FSU players on the line were massive. That's where you see the biggest difference between P4 and G6. They'll figure it out.

If the Gor is not valid then couldn't the ACC kick out schools when they lose big games all the time and make the ACC look 2nd tier in football. It also opens other conferences contracts to be broken both ways.

The loser would definitely be whichever side has loosing seasons before and after, if this gets approved especially if Clemson & Florida st continue the path they on with this garbage ass play and methods. For the ACC they would have to not have a conference champion win a playoff game and barely make the playoffs, so yeah the ACC would need a clear cut championship team to dominate regular season play and playoffs!!

Call me crazy but all this P2 talk I’m not buying. P4 yes. Teams evolve. NIL will evolve. Talent evolves. It’s not a 5 and 4⭐️ world. Player development programs can put quality competition on the field. It’s the Wild Wild West in college football. Let it flourish through inclusivity not exclusivity.
