Stettheimer is one of my favourites, I think she deserves more attention in art history!

Crystal Bridges is dominating this playlist! Clearly, I have to go back. ❤ Steiglitz looks like a real OG / Harry Potter mash-up. His right hand looks like he's conjuring a spell, lol. I love when artists choose to honor each other in their pieces like this, especially the O'keefe and McBride references. If I did something like this for my friends, I'd just do a poop emoji with the name "Rezbrat" embossed in it.

Is there a possibility that you will make a video on Vilhelm Hammershøi? Love the work you guys do.

Wonderful breakdown of this painting. Unless I am mistaken I think you left out O'Keefe's profile over Stieglitz's shoulder.

Thank you for commenting and for the kind words. We do mention the profile roughly two minutes and fifteen seconds into the video.

Two people was exactly a few seconds too late to join in the picture, only the foots sticks in from the frame, well well, better luck next time, I am not on one single painting for example

A very valid point...

5:37 In such a thorough examination of this artwork, you have avoided identifying the rather rotund figure sitting on the stool, an open book open on their lap. One of the Algonquin Table members? Female? Male? 🤔🤔And in the same area of the work, that strange rectangle on the floor, behind the walking stick...

We never cover all there is to discuss in our short videos. These are meant as prompts, and we hope they might inspire you to do a little research on your own. Nevertheless, the "strange rectangle on the floor" is likely meant to be one of Stieglitz's photographs of clouds from his "Equivalents" series. The man on the stool... (I'll let you do that one).

@@smarthistory-art-history Pointing out O'Keefe's profile portrait in the artwork was appreciated--it was such a faint outline, I could barely discern it... A little research on my own? A wonderful suggestion for us all: gauntlet taken up! 😂 Would never have pegged the rectangle for cloud photo; as the man was noted for his photographic oeuvre, it does make some sense. And the seated man? That's easy: he's a stool pigeon. 😉😉
