I agree with one of you other comments on the dmc, if there is a small dot near the number it's a new dye lot. I noticed it for 815 and 816, dark red. Love the snowman quilt. It's beautiful

I received the Halo Go lamp for a holiday gift. I ordered the case that Roberta talked about on December 30. I have received multiple anticipated ship date notices with the most recent ship date predicted for a February 2 arrival. Who knows what will really happen but just thought I would let you know. I hope we like it!

Hi Karen. I'm no expert on the topic, but I did hear someone mention on flosstube a while back that some of the DMC dye lots were changing due to environmental laws. They mentioned that the yellows specifically would look different. I've had some DMC from years ago that were in the red family where you could see a change in the dye when changes were made back then. I have a feeling that even though the dyes are changing, the newer dyes will become consistent, unlike the variegated threads which seem to change their look more often. Very frustrating to run out of a color in the middle of a project and not be able to find a match. Forewarned is forearmed, so hopefully stitchers will take note and stock up on what they need! Great WIP progress, Maria is almost done! I LOVE Snowmen AND batiks, & that wall hanging is absolutely beautiful! We have about 10" of snow here in WI, & below zero temps for a week now. I love the snow, but don't care for the cold. I hope you can get back to FL soon. Marilyn

Hi Karen. The high today is 27 and low is 14 in North Georgia but no snow or ice. Your Red Deer Sampler is my favorite you showed. I’m participating in Winter Camp too. I’ll be stitching The Strawberry Thief on a plaid mesh bag. My first time trying that.

Hi Karen, I also heard about changes in dying process that might affect colors, however I have Dmc from 20 years ago that I use in projects and when I needed the Prairie schooler red for Santa the new one was a noticeably different color. I was fine for that and used both reds but if I have a large project I kit Dmc as if it is overdyed, unless I am confident I have enough of the old Dmc to complete project. Happy stitching!

Hi! My dancer fabric has arrived, but still waiting for the pattern. Got 2 new patterns and all the floss fabric and amazingly I have not done anything as I want to finish And be kind by needlework press. Then feb 1 is full coverage feb so hmm I may have to do a 20 min a day in Feb then do full coverage rest of time. Lol. The quilt is so cute. Love the quilting on it.

Hi Karen, as the friend in Michigan who needed the DMC help, thank you for the Stitchy mail! However, your color is the same as my new one that doesn’t match. ☹️ However, our mutual friend, Martha, had the right dye lot! She thinks it may have come her mother’s stash…and that makes it even more special, as you know. Here is my totally unscientific observation about the difference in the dye lots…the color of the label. The dark label is the older floss and the light label is the newer one. I have noticed that on other DMCs, too, as I’ve replenished my supply. I took a photo but guess I can’t send it via this message. At least now I can finish the little bit of outlining that I have left to do. Hope you are warm and safe in Florida by now.

Hopefully by the time you head to Florida the stuff here in N. Alabama will be melted. We’ve been shut down for 5 days now! I have seen a post about DMC floss. Some of it has a little dot beside the number. This indicates a new dye lot and or dye process. Happy stitching!

Hi Karen! If I’m kitting up DMC and what I have in my stash isn’t enough for the project, I always compare the new skein color to my old one. Some of my old ones are at least 30+ years old. I would expect some color change regardless of whether the dying process has changed. You are getting so close on Maria and it’s so pretty. I love the quilting detail you apply to all your quilts. It really enhances the patterns. Have a safe trip to Florida.

Yes, In the recent past I've heard the EPA has made the dyeing process now to be different. I also heard for those who wash their pieces once finished, be super careful, as many of the Bright colors are now bleeding.
