Kerri- I also don’t know how to swim. I am 62 and people have tried to teach me 3x. I do know how to tread water and float on my back now. Like you, I hate water in my face and when I wash my hair, immediately dry off my face LOL
My husband and I went to England and rented a car. Thank god we got an automatic with gps. My husband did all the driving - London to Scarborough, Robins Head bay, Whitby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and back to London! It was a little hairy! Love your videos!
Kerri,my little hint for swimming.I was 20 at the time, and I taught my 50 year old friend how to swim. Monique had never been in a body of water or a pool. You can not get water in your nose if you blow bubbles out your mouth. 1)Stand in the water about waist deep bend over. 2)Put your face in the water and blow bubbles. Repeat steps 1&2 until you get comfortable. It may take days or weeks.Once you master this part, the rest is easier.
I have purchased the entire set of Roxy Floss... amazing... for those people that order from the US, customs rules apply to online orders with a value of $800 USD or more, so it would be beneficial to split the order in half, otherwise you are adding $114 to your order of floss.
Oh, you two! The description of your driving in England brought back such memories for this ol' gal. In the summer of 1992 we took our two kids (7 and 11) to England and Spain to visit family and friends. We landed in Manchester where we picked up our rented car -- my DH did all the driving. Our friends Joyce and Gordon met us at the airport and we followed them east to their tiny village in Yorkshire (near Bradford) -- windy roads and all. Our visit with them included driving to the Lake District and to York -- all in our rental following them. I believe it was a stick shift (which we owned in Calgary, North American style). After our time with them we drove south for the rest of our trip around England (including driving in London!!) before dropping the car for our flight to Spain (where they drive like North Americans but crazier). I still remember when "A" roads suddenly became "B" roads, or even "C" roads, and I'd have to tell my hubby to veer a bit to the right because the leaves of the hedgerows were coming in my window in the left-side passenger seat! And yes -- those round abouts! He never screwed up (to my recollection)...I remain amazed to this day!
Love the Koo! About 15 years ago (really?), I went to a Celtic Festival in Fergus, Ontario. It was a blast. Drove through a tornado (didn’t know it at the time) on the was back to Michigan.
I understand how driving in different environments can really be stressful. I commuted to work for 20 years in Detroit, then I moved to eastern Canada (NB). Went back to Detroit for a work trip after 2 years and it took a couple of days to adjust - I was really stressed out driving my rental car from airport to hotel.
i laughed so hard hearing about the driving experience in England! we were over there recently, we are US drivers, BTW. we rented a car in Inverness Scotland to go to Skye, and wanted to make a stop in Tommich, the ancestral home of the golden retriever. we learned that not all A roads are created equal!! At one point i told Paul, "go ahead, drive on the sidewalk or in the ditch!" i was a nervous wreck, but he eventually got the hang of it, most of the drivers on the narrow roads are very courteous, and we returned the car in perfect condition. take care! terri
Ok proud of you Carey to jump out there and teach yourself to swim…that was nice Jeannette….now the can’t help myself on the floor laughing visualizing you approaching the pool with goggles, nose clip…I’ve added bathing cap, fins, and…..child’s inner tube!!…. Swim Carey Swim
Great catch up with you both! I went to visit Hardwick Hall yesterday after hearing Caroline and Michelle both talk about it - great visit so thank you for the recommendation. Wonderful of you to mention the Quackalong that a gang of us are doing after Big Stitch with Michal's fabulous chart. If anyone would like to join us we start on 2nd September and I am sure we will be using #quackalong!
Sunday morning, an unusually cool, beautiful Sunday morning in August in St Louis, Mo, sitting on my screened porch, cup of tea, and listening to you guys! What a treat! What a day! Thank you both, beautiful retreat update and beautiful stitching. Oh, Kerri, that cow is awesome! And Caroline, your birthday SAL is beautiful.
Angus and I watched this video from London, England. We laughed along with you about driving and other tourist adventures. We head to Scotland in less than three hours and I will be shopping for my own souvenir hairy coo chart or kit. Two years ago on my birthday, Angus arranged for me to control the colored lights on Niagara Falls while we were at the power station. So fun!
Kerri good for you. Swimming is one of my absolute favorite things to do and I'm sure you will love it too. Plus you're much safer if you know how to swim. Oh I just love watching you two ladies together. As always, thanks for the giggles.
Does John count your pinching as a loss, Caroline? But brilliant idea! Hopefully it will increase sales. So looking forward to seeing Fergus evolve, Kerri. Have a good two weeks!
I love spending time with you both. Swimming can be a great exercise for your back. The trip to England looked like great fun. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
You two crack me up. I am in agreement with you Caroline about not carrying thread. I will stop and start for a stitch. I am proud of my backs, neat and tidy not a big mess of threads.
Caroline, I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for the extra month on the birthday SAL. I am almost at the same place as Kerri on the moth. I am enjoying this project. Your trip to England sounds wonderful.
Hearing Kerri talk about driving on the wrong side of the road brought back many memories. We have lifelong friends in Yorkshire and when I drove off the ferry I thought ... Omg, I have to do this...yikes. It ended up I took to it like a duck to water. Problem was when I got off the ferry again at home, it felt so wrong to be on the right side of the road. 😂😂😂 Loved being part of the Roxy hall of fame this time. Thanks for your fabulous work dying Kerri!
Thank you for the extra month on Weeds and Wildflowers. I love stitching on 20 count cloud break. Canada Swaps has been opened to general stitchers…most flosstubers are sending to a non-tuber just to mix things up. Your stitch is looking great. 🦉🧵🪡🎵
That Highland Tarten Coo is hilarious! I love it. And I cannot wait to get Max's book! There are definitely several I really want to stitch. Omg Caroline, sciatica sucks soooo bad! I have it in both legs, but a little worse in the right. I know not everyone likes/believes in chiropractors, but man, has mine helped so much. Also, there are stretches you can do right now or tonight that will immensely help. I don't know the name of the technique, but it's the one where you lay flat on your back and bring one knee and leg as close to your chest, holding it in place with your arms (almost like your hugging your knee) as best you can and hold for 30 seconds. Then do the same with the other leg. You should feel the muscles in the buttocks and lower back stretch a bit. The goal is to stretch the sciatic nerve and the area around it, so the muscles relax enough that your body goes back into its proper place and stops pinching the nerve. Doing that whenever you have sciatica pain helps me a ton!
I love Kerri's Full Coverage!! What count grided fabric did you use? its going to be fantastic when finished! Thanks for sharing your trip. Sounds like you had fun, especially the driving!!! And I hope Caroline's back gets better!!
@@roxy.flossco Thanks! I have been stitching my full coverage on 20, 25 and 28 tent stitch and I love how fast I can stitch. Have fun with yours!!! BTW - full coverage can be addictive - oh wait - all cross stitch is!!!
I laughed through your whole discussion on the driving experience in England! I screamed at my friend who was driving for 4 straight days. We are still best friends. 🫣
My advice is to take lessons. It will help you swim better in the future. Most swim pools give adult lessons, you will not be alone. Yes goggles are a good idea, but learn to swim in a swimming pool, not the sea or a lake. Yes, you kayak, but you need to get buoyancy to swim. It’s just some advice, take it or leave it.
Kerry, take a lesson. One lesson will give you the right way to swim so that you don’t have to unlearn things. Then it’s just doing laps to perfect it. I had one lesson at 45 to learn to get my head in the water and now at 72 I’m doing lap after lap.
Few chuckles watching you ladies today. Looking forward to seeing what else is to come from your line up of UK designers. Also looking forward to being able to sign up to the new fabric club ♥️♥️
Good on you for learning to swim, Kerri! What you need most is how to keep yourself afloat without tiring out. Then you can learn the fun strokes. I have to admit I never learned to do the crawl properly because I couldn't get the hang of turning my head to breathe. So I adopted the side stroke because I can avoid "breathing" correctly! I love the Highland Coow. Are you using needlepoint canvas? If not, what gauge and what type? Caroline, I had sciatica last winter for the first time. They sent me to PT where I mostly did stretching and flexibility exercises with a side of leg lifts. It must have worked. I just now knocked on wood, though.
It’s all about the water in my face so once I get over that I think I’ll be okay. I’m actually pretty good at back stroke 😂 Fergus the coo is on 25ct easy grid. Two threads tent stitch. It’s incredibly quick only doing the one leg and I’m quite happy with the coverage although it’s not perfect.
@@roxy.flossco Sounds like the swimming lessons should be (pretty much) a breeze for you! Thanks for the details on the easy grid. I have some 28 count eg that I've been saving for a full coverage piece involving fractional stitches too. I think I'll try an experiment with stitching a sample area of the 3/4 and 1/4 stitches surrounded by half stitches/tent stitch. It also calls for a lot of blended threads involving 3 strands, usually 2 of one shade and 1 of a second shade (eek.) That will give me the opportunity to see how much less subtle using 2 strands will be.
FOUND IT!!! Love that Margaret Jones peacock! You mentioned something about a Welsh Sampler at the end of a video. I can’t find the video you're referring to. Can you point me to where I can see it please! First time I've watched your flosstube but I follow you both in IG. Love all your banter! lol
Kerri, what size is your QSnap for Caroline’s BDay SAL? Do you put it in a frame or hold it. I find Qsnaps heavy to hold, my thumb aches. Love your Fergus!!
I’m pretty sure Kerri’s size for that is an 11” square and she and I both use the Hearthside Craftworks lap frames with the q snap adopter brackets to hold them 😊
Actually, a small correction to your story about Bess and her husband. They were hosting/jailors for Mary Queen of Scots for over 20 years, which caused a rift between them.
If you need swim lesson recommendations maybe look up Finan Swim School. Jack takes his lessons there but I have seen adults take lessons there as well. (Not with the kids) 😊
Loved the stories from your trip! I was wondering if you can tell me what the pattern is for the picture right behind Caroline? I saw it on your video and had strong “I must stitch this now” vibes. It has a house with two alphabets underneath and birds above the house with kind of a yellowy fabric. I checked the Evertotes shop but didn’t see it there.
@@evertote Thanks so much! That’s the one! I’m so glad you talked about it in your most recent video. I ordered the pepitas fabric and Roxy floss immediately!
We are stitching Quacker from Star Parade Designs. We start on September 2nd but join anytime. I’m using a Roxy linen but it’s open for anyone anytime! The hashtag is #quackalong
Ahhh.. so there are lots of things that you can learn to do from you tube. Swimming is really not one of those things. My dad who was in the Navy couldn’t swim. At about 45 my mom who is a big swimmer (even in her 80’s) convinced him to take lessons. So buck up girl and take swimming lessons. You will be so proud of yourself.
I had a lawn service do my yard work, which I normally do myself. I had been in the hospital for a week and wasn't up to doing any physical work. I let him plug in his electrical equipment in my garage. I paid him and he left. After I got well enough to do my own yard work, I discovered some of my own garden equipment was missing from my garage . A big box of fertilizer, a pair of ratitched tree trimmers, and a garden rake. All not there. I hadn't kept the receipts for these items, and I could not prove in court that he took them. So I just let it go. I ran into this same man a few months later and he wouldn't speak to me or even look at me. I wonder why. Maybe he was feeling a little bit guilty? Oh well. Live and learn.
