hi Annie, just found your channel and like it very much. I can't do X Stitch anymore so I do a lot of Embroidery - I still make pillows, project bags from my work as well as framing it. Your video tutorial was GREAT. I LOVE cosy chat/tutorial type videos and love all your makes and your sewing space, brilliant. It looks very Chic. I am from England and am LOVING your fabrics, don't see anything like that in my local fabric shops. You have a subscriber for life and shall enjoy watching all your videos. Dressmaker hint: to avoid the "swoop" in the center, rather than a perfectly straight cut at tops nd bottom, angle off just 1/8 of an inch at end .

Instead of measuring your strips, it’s easier for me to lay the strip under the piece and cut the remainder off. Just a thought.
@VictoriasCraftyRoom
@VictoriasCraftyRoom 3 года назад
Love your finish!! Will have to give it a try. Psst. Just a piece of helpful information. I would sew the strip on first and then trim edges. Then you shouldn’t need pins. Pins and material can shift when sewing. And I am not a super experienced seamstress but just wanted to offer advice. Now I need to find something to make a pillow out of!!

Wonderful first tutorial! You did great and I love that finish! A thought for the back piece you miscut, which we've all done at one time or another, is to cut strips for the back just like you did for the stitched piece. You could use the same fabric or a different color, like cream, and then it would frame the motif on the back fabric.

To use that miss cut piece of fabric, I have an idea. Why not stitch another plum pudding on evenweave 1 over 1. I don’t know what you stitched yours on Aida, evenweave or linen but a mini one would be neat next to the other.

Chris here…. Hi Annie, I really enjoyed your video 😍. I have a suggestion if you don’t mind…. When hand stitching 🧵 I use what is called a “quilter’s knot”…. it’s a wonderful and fabulously easy knot to use for all hand sewing or quilting…. I’m pretty sure that there is a video on RU-vid…. But, if there isn’t one I would be happy to share with you how it’s done…. reply back and I will email you and give my contact information so we can connect…. Happy stitching 😊😊😊

@theproperstitcher
@theproperstitcher 3 года назад
I will check when I get home.
@lives4stitching-jenniferl540
Hi Annie, I don’t want to appear ignorant by why do you use the interfacing? Is it to protect the piece or create a stiffer fabric? I watched another video and they did the same thing without explanation. Thanks for the video!
@theproperstitcher
@theproperstitcher Год назад
That is a good questions, and sorry I did not explain that in the video. Interfacing does two things when stuffing pillows. 1. It gives the fabric more "body", especially if it is linen or lightweight. 2. It protects your stitching/fabric when you are poking/stuffing the pillow. I hope this helps and makes sense. Feel free to let me know if you have anymore questions.
@lives4stitching-jenniferl540
@@theproperstitcher thank you for answering my questions. Yes, makes sense. I’m not well versed in sewing methods and wanted to understand. Thanks!

Hi, Annie! Thank you for the video - I just started watching the other night, and finally worked up enough nerve to try finishing one of my recent pieces into a pillow... ;) The problem is, I ironed my cross stitch (on linen) first, of course, laid out the interfacing (thought all looked good/flat), but it pulled on my cross stitch between stitched areas and left many wrinkles, I had to pull the interfacing off...has this ever happened to you?? I used Pellon PLF 36 (says on the packaging great for use in quilts and crafting projects, so thought would be ok...I also didn't realize how many Pellon products there are out there!!) Any advice would be helpful before I retry (I don't have a sewing contact to ask!!) The French General fabric is beautiful, and I just recently bought my first few JBW Designs patterns! Thank you so much, and for the continued inspiration!!
@theproperstitcher
@theproperstitcher 2 года назад
That has not happened to me. I will have to check the notes to see which interfacing I use. I do use a little steam when I am ironing it on.
