Absolutely love your vids. Very informative, stops talking when there doesn't need to be talk, has separate vids for riggings. Phenomenal and much appreciated work
Bought your book before taking the kids out on the boat for some fluking last week, read it cover to cover and had our most productive trip using only bucktails and gulp or pork rind ever. Thanks for a great read!
Just letting you know I came from your ad and was so happy finally a good informative ad came on instead of the usual crap. Can't wait to start watching your vids!
Great video. Went fishing today at Sandy Hook NJ and the flukes belly was full of tiny shrimp. Thanks to you I bought the shrimp gulp alive and my wife caught a 8lb fluke ☺
chandler - I would not use 30# for this setup. Very thin line is crucial to this type of fishing with light tackle and light payloads. 15# braid is very thin.
Thanks John. Love your books and videos. You are far and away the best at teaching us how to go "catching". Fished north shore this weekend off beach. Lots of bolders. Mole type crabs were in full swing mating. When this is such a predominant bait what is good match.... also got some fluke but was chased off beach by thunder storms. Are there still bass in area. Think I was in similar locale as vid. .
Went bottom fishing to Ensenada Mexico last week. Big Reds and sculpins all day. They were feeding on baby lobsters. put some Gulp Shrimps on the Drop and was amazing how this product works.... more than 17 pieces per person average weight around 4 to 6 pounds each....
do you still make it down to Florida? ever fish Sebastian inlet? can be as good as you catch them up there... average size is smaller in general but lots of 5-7 pound fish in the winter months
John, I enjoyed the video very much, but I am usually fishing in similar depths but the current seems to be a lot stronger than in the video and it seems like I have to constantly let line out to stay on the bottom, and I don't want to go too heavy on the bucktail, so is this normal? and what would you advise doing?
I'll go up to 2 ounces if the current is really moving. If it's a wind drift I'll use a drift control sock. The technique isn't the best in very heavy current.
Went fishing today, not so good for me, But these other guy caught 4 coho salmon and other had 1 or 2 .would love to try fishing in your part of the wood.
+John Skinner Fishing i spent last summer fluke fishing at obi and i had a blast i used a 1oz white bucktail with a yellow swimming mullet and a teaser hook with another gulp and caught my first fluke actually 5 or 6 i got 4 keepers, do u personally recommend that place ik u dont fish from piers but just asking
Now that Gulp is getting so ridiculous expensive.I started buying and Chartreuse or White swim bait or grub type plastic bait and soak them in fish oil works great.I buy them at walmart in gel caps just poke a hole in them and squeeze about 6 in the bag.Let them sit for a week or so before using.Good luck
I recommend to make a pause and slowly show the rig you are describing because a mere verbal instruction don't say much to beginers like me. Many anglers assume easy routine practices are also easy for many people. Otherwise I very much like your systematic way of teaching. Very interesting indeed.
i find with the sea robins the best way to handle then is to treat it like a large mouth bass grab it by the lip and there usually pretty easy to handle I always see people with rags there not that bad
John Skinner Fishing I fish Jamaica bay area at NY bight and I noticed most of the keeper had either shrimp or crab in them. Well thanks so much. On my way to the tackle shop to buy those shrimp
I know they have plenty of spines and a bit of venom but I've handled them plenty by just squeezing behind their heads in front of the gill plates. I also noticed some flounder getting handled with the towel too. Enjoyed the video.
I Just dont understand how Gulp catches more fish, how does it attract fish is it the smell or what makes it so good? When i do switch to gulp witch gulp Swimming Mullet, Shrimp.etc
