In this video filmed in early April Bunny shows us great plants in her courtyard such as Erodium pelargoniflorum, Erysimum ‘Red Jep’ as well as the progress of her new box hedge, Buxus ‘Heritage’ which is a blight resistant variety from BetterBuxus. She explains how to get milder but tasty lovage by blanching it. The Rose Meadow and Serpentine borders are establishing well and we have a quick look at her small Walled Garden. The construction of her new veg cage is finished made from reclaimed metal poles and Bunny discusses why she has chosen the 7mmx7mm black plastic butterfly netting for it. The new polytunnel is up and partially occupied, and in order to make it less visible Bunny reduced the height by cutting the legs down before assembling so that is more easily concealed but still functions really well. Bunny plants some Agretti, (Salsola soda) a delicious spring time Mediterranean succulent in the tunnel. This has a feathery texture and is tasty with an unusual rather mineral like flavour. Research has shown that the flavonoids produced by the plant suggest it could be of use in cancer therapy inflammatory problems and diabetic complications.

I love the artistic flourishes you add to your practical plant choices, forming lovely tableaux. Nothing like a finial or fleur-de-lis to add romance to a vegetable plot. One of these days I must get serious about a heavy-weight structure to keep out the critters who parade through the yard every night; skunks, raccoons, opossums, and cats. I know this since we added cameras last year when 'someone' was eating entire branches off my rose bushes. Now we share the videos as entertainment. Three baby raccoons wrestling are pretty cute. After five+ years of drought, Southern California has had so much rain. Still slogging away at the weeds, while everything else is growing like mad. Overall, this is a great Spring!

How inspiring Bunny ! I live in Canada and my farm is so bare compared to yours. I keep the dream alive and you are my inspiration. You'd laugh at my pathetic treeless landscape but Ive planted many, many small treed and shrubs. Thank you so much for leading the way

Norfolk U.K. - had box caterpillar for the last 4 years and through trial and error have discovered the following routine works. Caterpillars have reappeared in the last 10 days. I’ll now trim and shape the box and collect all the clippings on sheets tucked in below. The clippings are alive with whole and damaged caterpillars. A week after clipping I’ll spray thoroughly with Topbuxus XenTari. The box will get a second spray (but no trim) when the next generation of caterpillars appear in July. The box topiary looked lush, healthy, smart and undamaged all through each winter.

I enjoyed your spring video. I can see your are trying out a mor “ wild or natural” approach, with more poignant or friendly plants. Some great ideas even for gardeners in a different planting zone.

As we approach autumn and winter I love listening to your spring descriptions of the garden. Really enjoyed this as it pours rain here in Melbourne after a short drought May I recommend you watch the RU-vid channel the horticulturalists made by two local well known chaps that are very plant knowledgeable

I was shocked at the mention that this is a USDA zone 7 equivalent. I had always heard zone 8 to 9. I live in a 7 on the Northeast coast of the USA and the weather is miserable. 95 f for a few weeks each summer, incredibly humid, freezing in the winter.

Dear Mrs. Guiness you planted „Mönchsbart“ It is available in Tyrol in spring. We only get it in spring from nearby Italy where it is grown in the damp grounds in middle Italy. You can use it as salad: in boiling hot water for 2 minutes, sprinkle with Olive oil and lemon and Pinenuts. Thank you for the wonderful insights in your beautiful garden. 🙏

Hi Bunny, loved this video! Could I possibly ask a question? I took about 400 box and yew cuttings last September and overwintered them in my little lean-to greenhouse. The cuttings all look brilliant but they don’t seem to have any roots. What gives? Thank you!!!
@bunnyguinness
@bunnyguinness Месяц назад
They often take till late spring to root, I think you will find with the extra light and warmtth they should start rooting soon. Just dont give up and keep them moist in any hot dry weather.🐰
