Thank you for all the tips on the variety of flowers. I’m fairly new to pressed flower art and still have a lot to learn. I will share that Queen Anne’s Lace can be dyed by making a bouquet and putting it in a vase with colored water for a day or two. The colors tend to be muted, but very pretty.

You much have a beautiful garden! I have just ordered some Queen Anne’s Lace seeds. I have never seen them before. I live in the Uk, hope they will grow!
@emsplace
@emsplace Год назад
Hi Anne, I live on the Oregon coast and they grow here in a marine climate. They like sun. They also grow in the valley which it much hotter. So you may have success. Just consider that if you let them all go to seed and they are happy, they can become invasive since they readily self sow. So what I do is let a few flower heads go to seed (collect them and scater a little around where I want them in the fall or early spring) and cut the other flower BEFORE they seed. They don't always flower the first year so be patient and don't think they are duds. I have had them in my yard for years now and they have not become a problem using this technique. Thank you for watching, Em

Hi em! I love your work and learn and enjoy your videos so much💜... There is one thing i cant find anywhere about dry flower is "How to properly do the packaging of the dry flowers? for shipping those to customers or somewhere?" Apart from protecting or storing them for long (you already presented a playlist about it) i need guide on packing them for exchanging to others who will instantly use those as they wish without compromising on the quality. It would be so helpful if you share your knowledge about this. Or make any playlist on it future.
@emsplace
@emsplace 3 года назад
Hi, I am not sure if by "packaging" you mean storage? I just leave then in the paper sandwich when dried and put them in a dry, absorbent paper book or magazine until ready to use in a project. Thank you for watching, Em

is it bad to olace between parchment paper and place in a book? will it mold? thats how i saw in another video so im doing it now. after seeing yours im wondering if not a good idea
@emsplace
@emsplace 11 месяцев назад
Hi, you can give that a try. Personally however, I would not use parchement paper or any paper that is non-absorbent because moisture cannot leach away from the flowers. If your flowers turn brown or go mushy you will know it could be the parchment paper that aided in that. I just use copy paper and put in an absorbent magazine (not glossy paper) or book with absorbent pages. Just don't use your treasured books in case they get wrinkled or stained. Some very wet botanicals can turn brown or mold in any case, but non-absorbent paper traps moisture. Just play around and see what works for you:-) Em

Hi Gina, Some last longer than others. You don't want to put a picture in the sunlight. Generally, I color enhance when I want an arrangement to be displayed for the long term, and enhancing seems to work really well for me. Here is a playlist about that to help get you started ru-vid.com/group/PLxKiESd8bksOod-3Fe7kS4jzcXpFiorRA . Thank you for watching, Em

Hello Em, I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and your awesome teaching style!!! You are very descriptive as to the how's and why's, and I can remember things best with this style! I have a question about the "Chipboard"....do you buy it or do you make it? Sincerely, Cindy

Hi Cindy, this is the way I learn too. I like sight and explanation. The chipboard and cardboard I get from either Office Depot or Amazon. Here is an Amazon link www.amazon.com/Chipboard-8-5-x11-22pt-Sheets/dp/B07MTPQY87/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2CL9MJHQR1BE3&keywords=chipboard+8.5+x+11&qid=1564860564&s=gateway&sprefix=chipboard%2Caps%2C231&sr=8-5 This is the 100 pack, there are other pack counts available. Thank you for your videos. I love them. Sometimes I am getting wrinkly textures on single petals. I am using the “sandwich” method from your other videos. I use fresh copy paper and cardboard with no waves. Any ideas for what I’m doing wrong?
@emsplace
@emsplace 11 месяцев назад
Hi, Generally speaking, wrinkles can happen if you don't use enough weight, especially in the first few days, and/or you press thin/sheer petals/flowers/leaves on the same page as thicker items. The thicker items leave air pockets in the sandwich that can cause thinner items on the sheet to be more wrinkled. There may be other reasons, but I would start there. I use very smooth chipboard between the flower sandwich in the absorbent magazine and the cardboard. Because even cardboard that may look smooth can still impart a texture if it is the kind that has the air airspace corrigation - if that makes sense. Hope this helps and thank you for watching, Em

Kindly let me know how to prevent these dried flowers from fading...some lose their original colour... To prevent mildew from setting in long after these flowers have been framed..
@emsplace
@emsplace 2 года назад
Hi, in regard to mildew: I have not had that problem when storing or displaying pressed flowers in dry conditions. The only time I have had any mildew or other issues is during the pressing process if botanicals are to wet to press or left in the press for too long without rotatating to dry books/magazines during the process. My videos go into great detail about my processes. Some plants don't press at all because they are too wet. In that case sometimes a microwave works. Some I just don't press at all for that reason. In storage, the only issue that happens is over time some plants will start to turn to dust from microscopic bugs - but that takes years and I just throw them away in that event. But not really that many and not a big concern. When used in an arrangements and protected, I have not had any issues. Maybe other areas of the country or climates may be different. These are natural items and there is no one set formula. In regard to color retention: Learning what holds color well help. In some cases I will color enhance for pictures and items I want too display over time. For cards and bookmarks and some other items I generally don't worry about it. Many of the flowers I press that you see in my videos are fairly good color keepers for a time. Even fine art colorants can fade over time since many things don't last forever - sadly. Be sure to keep art in dry conditions, and pressed flowers away from sunlight for longer lasting color and quality. I have things like wall decor, paperweights, bookmards and other items on hand for years and still looking good, even if mellowed in color over time. I am talking ten to twenty years in some cases, so it may just depend on the process and conditions. Thanks for watching, Em

How long do u keep them pressed
@emsplace
@emsplace 2 года назад
Hi, years in some cases. I press so many flowers that my archive has some things going back decades. I like to keep ones even if I don't sell or use them so I can see how they fair over time... As long as they are kept dry and under normal temperature ranges they can keep for years. Many will fade over time, but many can be painted and used for artistic techniques for their shape an texture. I keep the paper sandwiched pressed botanicals in a book or magazine until used. See my peeking at flowers videos/playlist to see how I store them:-)

I would like to do a picture what kind of glue do I use?
@emsplacelive9695
@emsplacelive9695 Месяц назад
Hi, appreciate the interest. Not sure what kind of picture. As under glass or? If under glass I just spot glue the center or area where the flower or leaf holds together, rather than the entire item - just to keep it from moving around or falling apart. For that I just use a toothpick and Elmer's Glue. But really any glue you have on hand like that should work. Just test a few first. If you are thinking of something else as a picture, please let me know more details and I will see if I have any thoughts that may help. As I side note, If I do glue the entire flower or leaf on the back, I use a brush and Matte Mod Podge - most of the time. Have fun and thanks for watching, Em

How do you press roses?
@emsplace
@emsplace 3 года назад
Large or thick roses I often press the petals and then re-assemble. For the small ones I press whole. They don't always make it through the traditional press without turning brown. I have also used a microwave press and than can work. Give it a try and see what happens for you. It is all a learning process:-)
