It's not a solid effort, it's bloody amazing that you're already able to sell flowers at this time of the year as such a young farm. Not to mention you had no farming experience beforehand. I'm so excited for your future, you products and your YT content is always amazing. Hope you enjoy the slow season.
Just had a thought, you mentioned how displays of flowers get cooked outside your little road side stand. Putting some large planters (wine barrels) or clawfoot tub and planting your flowers, herbs, veg and bulbs in those containers would be eye catching, show off your talents and display some items you are selling inside the stand. Maybe run drip to the planters so you do not have to fuss much with it.
You northern hemisphere gardeners have taught me a lot about what i can grow in Australia during the winter - i have bought A LOT of sedum and scented geranium. Geraniums grow like weeds here all year around, so that will be super easy for me. I hope you will do lots of flower arranging videos for us next season 🙂
I think approaching local restaurants with your produce is a great step forward. Consistent buys for the season I would imagine as long as they love the product or have a consistent menu
You’ve mentioned not enough room to take enough flowers to market in the truck, but if Serena brings a “refill” load after market opening that might solve the problem without new infrastructure investment? Would also keep them out of the summer heat longer? Thanks for the video :)
What beautiful shots of the greens! And, you are still able to find other great surviving specimen to make your bouquets. It's amazing what you are able to glean from the garden even after the multiple frosts. Ian, maybe you didn't make your market $$ goal, I'd say you came pretty darn close to it! Serina, I'm happy you were able to enjoy market day.
Have you thought about turning your dried flowers into a potpourri mix by infusing them with essential oils, and bagging them up like your lettuce mixes?
I know serina had mentioned wanting to just do the flowers next year, because of the small amount of sales with the vegetables... I was just thinking- have you all tracked the number of customers that purchase JUST flowers vs. Flowers & Veg vs. JUST veg? I'd be curious how many of your customers come to your stand because they're able to get more than one thing on their list say- flowers, tomatoes & lettuce, & of that would change if you only offered flowers, or if they'd still buy your flowers, but just go to another booth for their veg?
791 sounds good for the end of the season Ian 😊 Like you said, most of your produce was taken by the frost but your preplanning with frost tolerant crops and flowers still saved the day. 💕💜
Great video!!! Its relax family time, they got Xmas music on the radio already!!! Its time to just enjoy the holidays and sit back and look at all the achievements you accomplished!! Iv been looking for green tomatoes and can't find them, I want fried green tomatoes soo bad lol. Your lucky you have them!! Your channel is noway near a lose, we want to enjoy whatever you post, take us shopping I don't mind!! Noone else minds either. We're here this long were not going anywere!! We're family!! We understand the weather change. Hey you can get a bunch of milk jugs and plant seeds and grow in winter!! Thats fun!
During the winter or after harvests are completely over I would love to see how you use the produce you have saved for yourselves throughout the season 🤍
Great to watch your videos, your bouquets are as good as summer ,and will be greatly appreciated at this time of year and your veg always look so good, wish I could buy them here in the UK.Good luck you work so hard you really deserve to succeed.
Amazing to see you put together such beautiful bouquets so late in the season - a true talent! And, knowing the hard work and dedication it takes, I am always very grateful to all the people who grow our food.
You should try growing hydrangeas especially the paniculata types they dry beautifully as well they are beautiful fresh. The dried hydrangeas look beautiful with dried sedum. I think you would really like them for bouquets. Serina your bouquets are always stunning! You do a great job!
The most popular farm stand for mixed greens at my local market display A LOT of greens in those same blue bins and bag them at purchase. An extra step to bag them on the spot but they always have a huuuge line specifically for greens because they’re so beautiful and eye catching. It’s the stand I always shop for greens 😂
Beautiful way to close up the season! I am just now getting into dried/pressed flowers for personal crafting. I’ve missed out on quite a bit for this season, but also have some surprise frost survivors. And now You’ve given me some ideas for next year as well! ❤️ Thank you for the splash of color. It’s a great way to start the Season’s Rest. 😄🌺
So wish I could buy from you! Veggies and flowers both. Make sure and mention gift giving with the dried bouquets, they are lovely for winter decor. I saved my dried flowers and petals from my garden this summer, and have lots of potpourri for gifting. It has some scent from lavender and roses, but I enhance it with my oils. You probably have all sorts of pieces from making your dried bouquets.
This week's video is just beautiful 😍 I especially enjoyed the time-lapse of Ian working on greens with Serina on bouquets. I'm sure I'm not the only one happy to see my RU-vid friends doing well 😊
I know it's hard to see the mixed greens in compostable bags but it would be great for the environment... Maybe patrons can pack their own bags? Then they could see the big mixed box beforehand?
Amazing flowers after heavy frosts! Every time I see those sedums I am awestruck. Such huge blossoms. I’m with you, Ian, I eat kale for breakfast too. Kale and mushroom omelet…..yum! I make a lot of kale and sweet potato soup in the winter as well. So nutritious. Have that for breakfast also sometimes.
This video was shot early October then put on the backburner to make way for the flowerface video so it is not a current reflection of what the farm looks like.
@@YouCantEatTheGrass ahh ok. Well my snaps and strawflowers are still going. I thought he said 3 more markets and was like wait what? Hahaha but then didn't think about it
Great job with the bouquets Serina, they look stunning! Wish I lived nearby to get my flowers and veggies from you guys, I love all the greens and kale. Looking forward to see what you get up to over the winter and this next year. Hope you get a well deserved break at some point as you both work so hard x
Beautiful Display at the Farmer's Market! I would gladly purchase from you if you lived near me in Oregon. Hope your season's end is profitable for your family!
Hey I just watched your video from October 2020. The poor chickens 🐔 and 🐓 were sad but hilarious. Did you put that on a regular RU-vid video? Can you you imagine how many views you could get. I was killing myself laughing. Is that another way to make money? I hope you do well because you are so sweet and well meaning. 💗 to you and your family.
That snow was crazy, and the chickens were so funny, lol. We don't have chickens anymore, but the neigjbour does, and they are funny to watch about them hating the snow, lol
If you are doing less veggies next year, maybe you could plant up one of your high tunnels with some flowers and they would last farther into the fall. These bouquets you did were beautiful!
I like the creativity and silliness in your videos, excellent choice of music this time and stunning bouquets as always!!! I sometimes watch your videos on midnights so sometimes I'm sharing your pain at 4am Ian haha
You are amazing..I have berry farm and mkt garden in Caldwell Idaho...I specialize in pies jams and berries...all from my three acres...weather tricky and dry high desert..
I'm not sure if Beauty Berries and pink and white Snow Berries will grow in your zone, but they might add to your end of the season bouquets. Easy to grow perrenials and make a beautiful addition to the landscape.
Your dried flowers look amazing! I'd love to see a video on all the varieties you have and if there's anything special you do with them while drying. Also, your lettuce looks so perfect it looks fake! As always, well done.
Wow!!! I can't believe you still had fresh flowers!! And you were sooo close to your goal. Any cool flowers that your gonna try and do for early spring blooms besides bulbs?
Oh my goodness, I wish I would have known to try putting green tomatoes under grow lights. I composted so many green ones since we don't like them either.
My dahlias got hit with frost first week of Nov. Picked all the available flowers the night before. I think I was in mourning for them for about 1 week and now I am in full cut them down and store them for the winter satisfaction mode. The only flowers that did not get nailed were the radish blossoms and I'm still getting some pods, which I give to the dogs as a treat while they follow me through the garden.
Just want to say, I have really enjoyed your videos of your flowers and veggie sales. You two, Laura with Garden Answer and Nicole with Flower Hill Farm have inspired me to grow seeds and plant a cut flower garden, backyard style...maybe a pop up bouquet sale? Thank you for sharing all you do!!
