the trick is to cook them on a low temp so the heat has time to get to the center of the massive lump of batter before the outside is golden brown. if temp is too high you burn the outside and are left with uncooked inside
You also need to use powdered chemical stabilizers to get them to be so puffy. The easiest swap for a home cook to make is powdered egg whites. The woman on How To Cook That came up with a killer recipe for these. My mom and I adore them and I plan to make them for her after her knee replacement in a few weeks. I figure it’ll be a good pick-me-up for her.
The music just makes it so much better 🤌🏻 Edit :- There are like a 10 different interpretations of the Song in the reply section (I already knew the original meaning of the song and just wanted to express my opinion) telling me it's meaning and arguing who is right... I just wanna say don't argue, it won't get you anywhere

They became extremely popular and now you can find them all over Japan, much more common than in America so it makes sense that they would be dubbed Japanese pancakes. Reminds me of how hamburgers became popular in America compared to their origin country of Hamburg. But now hamburgers and America are basically synonymous with each other.
THANK YOU sooo much for sharing all that!..i had no idea!..just a few min ago i was watching a gal make these, but with no way to get the recipe..people tryed, but couldn't find it..this is sooo cool, and they look absolutely incredible!!..sooo fluffy!..airy!..thanks!..🙏👍🏻😇
@@Corrocon They are not synonym. 'Hamburger' is a fried minced meat flatened ball with bread and extra stuff. 'Amerikaner' is a baked cake in ufo form with white &black sugar frosting. At least in Germany.
I think it's supposed to be like a custard texture which is not my cup of tea to begin with lol but yes to an average American it absolutely is not cooked all the way but the way it's prepared it's cooked all the way.... If you like custard or jello it's perfect for you but if ya don't then no you won't like it 😂
You are technically supposed to steam cook the pancake (add a small amount of water in the cooking surface then cover it with a lid) after you flipped once so that the middle is cooked thoroughly.
You DO see it's RAW in the middle... Right... I can't be the only one who doesn't like eating raw eggs and uncooked pancake batter.. thought that was standard. ☠️🤡☠️🤦♀️🤷♀️🤣
Ty! I was just about to comment this.. why make a cooking video knowing other ppl will want to recreate the recipe without providing us with the recipe or instructions?
@@Isa-Everly I thought it was obvious enough but apparently, not. 😂 Nick DID NOT cook that pancake, he just ordered that on the café/restaurant and filmed the people making the pancake. You expect the store owners to hand out their recipes? lol

@@KoiAi_ thank you for explaining. This is sad. How could they put a song like this to video about food?🤦🏼♀️ Well.. maybe they did not know either and thought it sounded nice.🤷🏼♀️
@@jasmineb4787You're welcome. 🙏🏽 And yes it has a really upbeat tempo and she has a sweet voice to confuse the listener. There are a number of people who make such songs. One man, he makes super happy music, but the lyrics tell stories of his suffering and his last song was explaining how he would end his own life, it was never released until he did take himself to the other side. His friend finished the music composition they were working on and released it in his memory. I don't like listening to those songs because the dropped tuning under all the happy instruments playing over it is felt, it puts me off inside. But this song is relatable and extremely heartbreaking because of its truth. Miki Matsubara died of cancer years later at a young age. Really sad life for such a sweet soul 💔
He would have to have lived there for 10 years with a visa to even get permanent residency status (which is not citizenship). It’s very hard to get Japanese citizenship as a foreigner.
@@lonniefox2519So many people miss her. She was a bright light in what can be a very dark and sad world. She was the brightest ray of sunshine and we can't help but reach for her and the joy she brought to life in general. She was mischievous in the best way and so kind and friendly. I'm sad to have never met her but I'm glad I got to experience her videos and her love for life while she was still here. She was braver and put up more fight than I've seen in a long time. She did it all with a smile on her face and middle finger in the air 🫶🏻 She's causing trouble wherever she is, I'm sure, and everyone is probably joining her in laughter ❤
Don’t expect them to taste like pancakes. They are basically completely different. I can barely even finish one cause they’re so rich. But I can easily kill a big stack of regular pancakes.😂
@@leonupsIt's cooked all the way, at least the ones I've had. it just doesn't taste very good because if the insane amount of egg whites used to make it. It's the egg whites that gives it that pillowy texture.
They suck. I spent $100 on them last weekend after seeing them on RU-vid. They make your stomach hurt and are too rich and too sweet. And I love rich and sweet.
He just ordered that and filmed the chefs making the pancake (like other content creators who feature different establishments), properly observe the background/environment. I doubt the store owners would disclose their recipe...
I found this short by accident and you remind me a lot like a young version of Chandler (from Friends) I promise is a compliment ❤ also the pride on your face holding the pancakes was adorable
I have a recipe like this, its called breakfast cloud cakes, which is different from the cloud cakes dessert. You separate eggs, and mix the yolks with heavy cream and water and mix in as much air as you can. Leave it with "sparkling bubbles". Whip the egg whites to meringue and fold in vegetable oil. Mix the first mixture with your favorite pancake mix for simplicity. Once its just mixed, fold in the oily meringue. Melt fresh butter before adding each new cake to a medium low heat pan with a wide flat surface. Cook the fist side until the sides are dry up to the top, then flip and cook the other side until the cloud has the firmness you desire. You can add chocolate or other chips to the mix for sweeter results. Make a simple glaze and add cinnamon on top of each cake for the traditional serving suggestion.
I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your videos and am so happy with how many amazing people you meet every day. Your videos always put a smile on my face and have so much humor Thanks Nick ❤
@@quartzskull8772Not to be mean to Nick or anything because soufflé pancakes are extremely hard to cook correctly at home/not in the restaurant where they originated from, but those pancakes are absolutely undercooked/raw. I’ve watched tons of Japanese cooking videos, and they do things Nick doesn’t do. The biggest one being that they cover and steam the pancakes for at least 15 minutes if not more for basically each side. This is essential for the pancakes to be cooked through. Nick doesn’t cover them at all in the video (or indicate that he does so), so those pancakes are most definitely raw.
FYI: FOR EVERYONE SAYING "ITS RAW IN THE MIDDLE" ,THERE IS NO BATTER OR PANCAKE MIX IN IT. ITS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT...FLUFFY LIKE CLOUD! ITS 90% EGG WHITE🤔🤔
