Fluffy Ruffles Cocktail From 1934 - Cocktails After Dark
I did this old cocktail based completely on the name... little did I know at the time that it was named after a famous comic strip from the very early 1900s.
Fluffy Ruffles Cocktail:
1/2 Bacardi Rum
1/2 Italian Vermouth
peel of one Lemon

I always watch right to the end and hope for an amusing postscript scene. I was not disappointed. With apologies to Strother Martin, "What we have here is ... failure to clink glasses." 👍🇨🇦

Love the cocktails after dark stuff! Jules has my kind of timing showing up after the drinks are ready to consume! 😂

There was a tug at my heart when I saw the date written in the cookbook. That was the day my mother turned 21, she and my father had gotten married the day before, and on the 9th my dad turned 34, they had met exactly 1 year earlier and had an immediate connection. It's a precious little story that mom loved telling us, she worked in the drugstore soda fountain and he was in the Coast Guard, stationed in Grand Marais, Minnesota. 😊😊😊

I had a bad day. Just the fact that there is a drink called the Fluffy Ruffles made my day.

Sounds like you'd both end up under the table if you tried every combination you could do.

How late in your shooting day are you? Quite a bit of boozy filming in the can, I'd say. Cheers! 😂

I wonder if this would work as well with dry vermouth? I will try what I have open in the fridge. Cheers!

Good point! I've been experimenting negroni's and have noticed huge variations in flavour amongst the different sweet vermouths I've tried not to mention the gins of course. I guess the key is to use what you like and hope that it works well in x cocktail lol

I'm curious when adding the lemon peel, does it really add a taste or is it more that you get the scent while sipping the drink?
@nihlify

Scents affects the taste of things, so you'll probably think it does
@CreeSweetSage61

@@nihlify That's what i was thinking, since it is such a small piece of lemon rind.

So I found a different take on the French 75 you might like to try. Sub the gin for tequila and the champagne with Prosecco. Add a bit of simple syrup for sweet. And a lime and strawberry garnish. A not so sweet take on a margarita.
