Is that U* called U+? Afaik U* is friction velocity and it isn't dimensionless. I'm slightly confused or maybe he's just using a different notation.

Thank you for the lecture! I am wondering how to determine the very first step. how to determine FD is a function of D V rho and miu. if we are in the process of research, we don't know what really matters to this force. maybe we can list few, but i am not sure if we can list all. Does this method works if I miss one of the parameter, for example, I didn't recognize miu. so FD is just a function of DV rho. or someone also mention T, if T is part of the FD function, what then? does this method work in an uncertain condition? or maybe the graph we plot at the end will tell if we found all and reasonable correct parameter? Thank you!

my question is, why did we use the radius as a variable instead of the length of the cylinder? could we have used either?
@arseniikvachan1309
@arseniikvachan1309 3 года назад
Yes, you can. It is dimensional analysis. It is an approximation on the output, given a relative input. This is not nuclear physics or something. But the best option will be probably to use the volume.

My only question is why did you select 3 dimensionless parameters instead of 4. I know you have two pi terms and add on the remaining parameters but there is no mention of how many you should select. Just that they need to have m,L, and t.
@Mullligan
@Mullligan 4 года назад
The number of repeating variables you use is also m, which is the number of primary dimensions (M, L, T) present. The number of repeating variables you choose can also be less than m if m amount is not possible, eg if some of the variables are dimensionless.
