I figured out why he got fired from his job(s). He's just too smart to suffer idiots politely. Luckily for me, as an excluded from pretty much all jobs but FDNY Haz-Tac Paramedic from which I'm now retired very early, white men need not apply... so it may be more that than his approach to wingdings. Interestingly, my nieces are starting to notice they are having trouble finding work, but they're in their late teens. I don't have the heart to tell them what's coming... since girls can marry money and exploit anyways, but I doubt there will be many men available to use as a cash register these days...

I love how my progress through this game is syncing up so well with these uploads. I just got to fluid and I'm like "oh boy, lemme watch a pro work with this stuff to get some ideas first" and boom, a brand new video dropped.

i took your advice to heart about making everything modular, i even stopped adjusting the output belts up and down on miners and other 1 layer blocks when needed, but created a block that merges the output of 2 blocks that output to the same layer and one that splits 2 layers into 2x1 on the same layer for input parity. it does save me a lot of clicks actually.

I was SO happy once I worked out how to do my 4 belt painting on a single layer. Liberally apply launchers so I avoid going up a layer just for routing. For mine, I have the 4 painters lined up alternating such that the paint tanks are all connected in a 1x4 line. I reckon it must be possible to compress the painters to a 1x1, but I haven't quite worked it out yet. Anyway, the 1x2 works perfectly for 12 belts.

Yeah I made a nice 4-belt painter on a 1x1 block and I've not needed anything else. Fluids have so far only been as difficult as finding the nearest correctly coloured patch

I made a 1x1 4-belt painter, took me quite some time to route the fluids and now Nilaus casually mentions that the pipes can hold 6 fluid launchers' worth of throughput... Time to redesign 😅

I know it's not really how you do things since I've been watching for 6-7 years, but I'd love to see everything, not just highlights, here on YT. I don't visit Twitch much any longer, so it's harder to keep up with the design elements. For example, I know you made a lot of blueprints in the background, and even taking a second to showcase what they're doing would be helpful instead of just saying "here's the blueprint, stamp it down, done." I haven't even looked yet, but maybe even sharing out blueprints since you're not showing them all off would be helpful, too.

Man I shamelessly robbed you. Stole your "least ugly" paint setup. Stole the idea of going modular. Stole some blueprints. I managed to make a 1x2 platform which paints 8 conveyors of stuff within 2 floors. Same for stacking. It speeds up the game soo much. Glad to watch your video. I also love this game. Pozdrawiam ❤

My inner monk is satisfied after i watched Josh's video. You might want to extend the base to a 3x3 cube and start feeding the beast from two sides of each coner. The "side quests" are quite low numbers, so you want to use all the lanes.

I'm fortunate that I discovered Shapez 2 via you rather than through other players cause it scratches that itch in a way more accessible way than other similar factory games, distilled down to the barest of essences. This is definitely going into my shopping list later thanks to your LP.

There is one major feature to clean up old productions. Select one tile of the production chain and click the letter "O". This selects all connected pieces and you can delete them safely. Anyways great videos, OCD friendly and great explanations. Edit: Don't forget to disconnect the main bus (vortex) to keep it there.

I noticed that in some of your designs, you aren't connecting the same floors together. For example, on the Stacker the bottom floor of one input is matched with the top floor of the other. This works fine as long as there's a full 8 belts, but I found that if I was feeding it just 4 lanes (bottom lanes on each input), it would get stuck because they didn't match up. Have you found that to be an issue at all? I reworked my stacker module to match up inputs to outputs, and even matching specific input lanes to the corresponding output lane. It took some extra time, but it's satisfying to have a nice clean design that matches everything up like that. And, like you've said, I find it's worth investing the time in really refining a design since you will get so much use out of it once it's done.

If I start combining several then I need a blueprint for each possible combination or I will need to make adjustments every time i want to rotate the other way. I just don't think it is beneficial to combine things

I got shapez2 Friday. I got the paint the early the other morning. I was trying and trying to make something that wasn't spaghetti looking. After messing it up several times trying to figure things out, my thought was when is Nilaus going to make a nice simple working design for us.

4:24: Since you asked, this is my own 1x1 shape painter. It accepts four belts of one shape and kick it out on the other end. I made it so it accepts paint from either end, on any layer. I have not tried putting in different colors on both ends for fear of what might happen. It does require three floors unlocked. I have yet to figure out a build for painting and mixing that only use 2 floors. i'm hooked by this game and i cannot wait to see when i'm done with it how shitty my design are compared to Nilaus. For the time being no cheating i'll come back later BTW as i don't interact with the community to not influence my creating process i don't know if people do that : one game changer for me was to actually use the space in the extraction platform to refine the shape i mined. if you just mine the mine the shape you can get a full 4 belt out of it BUT if you take the shape and you change it to exactly what you need for painting and stacking the rest of your factory will be so easy and just a matter of copy pasting good design and even if you modify the shape inefficiently in your miner with half destroyer and you only get 2 full belt out of miner just copy paste the whole miner because the resource node are so big you don’t need to be efficient at that stage I often but down like 15 different miner just for a simple research shape because I will destroy everything just for the quarter that I want

i have designed a painter on 1x2 tile, which paints one belt per floor, without interacting with the upper floors. So you can stack them and you can paint a full Spacebelt with 3 lines. Just some jumping belts and pipes, in the end it doesnt look that bad and gets the job done.

You could be slightly more space efficient with the painter setup from 6:25 by serializing them instead of running them in parallel; just include a 1-tile gap between each pair of painters to divert their output belts and create the space to pull in the next input belt. You would have to tap into the second floor to do this, but if you needed a higher output variation involving both floors I don't think it would be too difficult to create a small offset. It won't be perfectly symmetrical, but it will be more space efficient than your current design.

I like the clean up round you made. I would also suggest maybe having a few areas where you plop down factories, but then just move around the inputs... might want to have those built close to the vortex, so that you can pull in raw materials and paint in volume, but just reconfigure the inputs ... sorta like you would do with a programmable gate array.

3:22 Thanks for explaining the space pipe tooltip. As written it’s pretty confusing and it’s easy to think you can only transport 4800 (16 pumps) not 4800 x 8 (8 blocks of 16 pumps each). The actual pipe capacity looks like a bottleneck though as it is 7200 (6 launchers of 1200 each), so you can’t unload the full space pipe into a single pipe on a block - you’d need to take each layer of 4 out separately if you wanted all the paint at max capacity for some reason.

If possible it seems like it would be cleaner to have the diagonal build put out 8 lanes of the same rotation, so you don't have to modify a rotator block every time.

Since there are only 4 base shapes, circle, square, ninja star and pinched circle, do you think collecting a whole disk of each with trains and only using those to make your shapes is a good idea as opposed to using mixed disks and having to pick your shapes from those?

Seems like you might want to make your split diagonals module do the rotating in-module so that you don't need a second module that just rotates the bottom lane?

I've been having fun building modules independent of any shape progress. It's really smart that you standardize a lot of 8 in/8 out. Do you think you can build some basic components that can do 12 in / 12 out?

In the process of the same idea, saving different actions as blueprints. But have someone managed to work with the catapult? In Shapez (1) you could set the start and the end separatly. Now its always 4 blocks between the jump. Sometimes I want 2 or 1 or 3 :)

I think you ought to just put the rotators on the diagonal splitting blueprint since chances are you will keep rotating half of those outputs over and over...

You really need to take a look into the other cutter. Halfs-interchange Soooo mucho shapes can be done with just thouse and turns. 2 belts in 2 belts out. Belt conns is awfull but I've found a way

Fyi I found It is better to transport "pure" forms (4 equals parts) over long distantes then Paint, much more reusable job. (Imagine a powerfull station with all the pure shapes and colors ready to grab and do the tasks)

Why not send all liquid pipes to all levels of the platform scale pipes? That way backpressure will divert liquids to where there's space in the pipe?

6:09 - the least bad option? are you sure about that? Ôo one belt/pipe can support 4 painter. you have 8 at the moment. that makes 32 painter you can support. that won't fit on that platform, dude. use space belts and pipes to transfer goods between platforms. use platforms to reorganize your spacebelts and pipes. I have a 3x3 painter platform setup for triple-layer inputs and a 1x2 platform for sigle-layer inputs. I use 1x1 platforms as layer stacker and unstacker for space belts and pipes. If u can't fit a setup on a single platform use multiple smaller as one collective factory surface and split errands between them. I'm operator level 138 on normal and currently 51 on hexagonal & hard. I'm barely building new factories. I just array platforms and belts. Currently working on the automation stuff to fully automate any shape production. ^^ Have to admit, that kinda breaks my brain a bit. xD

1200*4 is 4800 aka one space pipe... not 1200*4*8, that is 36200 or something Edit: I had to go in the game to check, as Nilaus said, space pipes (like belts) are just 4x however many floors you have access too, I was just a bit confused by the wording

Yep. It's 4800 per space pipe lane. 4800x8 is the throughput of the space pipe as per 3:06 (this is 2 layers of 4 lanes). However, each paint launcher can only move 1200 which is 1/4 of the pipe lane's capacity. You need 1200 paint for a single conveyor which is 4800 for a full layer, so you have to combine 4 launchers to paint a single layer. This works out nicely. As a result, you only need 1/4 of a full-loaded pipeline to paint the full 8 conveyor belts, so you can split that full-loaded pipeline 4 ways and have enough paint to do 4 full stacks of conveyors. I'm sure there's a use case for that later on, but what I typically do instead of fully loading the pipeline is to just drop 1200 into each lane (i.e. 1 extractor's worth) and call it a day.

I have to say, I'm having trouble managing the lower and upper layers. To be more precise, building belts/pipes that move up or down oftentimes doesn't work or disconnects stuff... Anyone else habing trouble with this?

Nilaus, while i was traffiking with the paint, the ratios of the extractors, the tube, and the painters made me find out that one single lane of paint can support up to 40 painters actually. each painter consumes 30 l/m, the extractors gives you 300 l/m, and the line (cuz jumpers) has a output of 1200 l/m. 1200/30=40 i'm curious, can you check it too?

@@willowsticks ........for my own interest i checked again. i'm a damn idiiot. i missed the fact that each painter need 10 litres for each piece. with the speed of 30 l/m it means each painter burns 300 l/m. yeah... just missed a detail

man i am not efficient when i play lol theres no way i can handle 8 lanes incoming, im fine with 4 lol and i didnt realize the spliter would turn 4 lanes into 8 i always merged them back to 4

Same for me, I made one for 4 belts on one city block. I used the 5x5 corner space for painting 1 lane with 4 painter staggered on 2 levels while letting the 4 wide middle of the platform for lanes. Actually I think having a "weird" machine design is nice, it varies the building pattern of you factory. by not having one big line feeding all the machines lined up cleanly

i stopped watching at 25 mins in. i am too tired to keep watching. i decided to play, instead. i was watching, religiously. i would copy everything you did on my seed that is different to yours. after a while i got confident with my skills and decided to have a go without your help. i reached the next milestone and i have unlocked trains. i will still watch the rest coz there is bound to be something i have missed. for example i have a 2 platform module that windmills and stacks and there is most of half with nothing on it. makes me feel like i am maybe not being as compact as i could... then again it does windmill and stack...

Why does it seem to me that I'm too stupid to understand his playthrough? Given I tested in the 99th percentile on the ASVAB,* which means I'm in the top 1% of all ppl that have taken the test over something like 60 or more years, I feel like my ex-wife exclaiming, "Don't call me stupid, stupid," to wit I said after all was lost anyways, "stupid is as stupid does..." Is it that Nilaus excludes showing some things to make many things less easy to follow along, or at my age, I'm suffering from a Biden brain disease now? I'd be really interested in unvarnished feedback, cause unlike snowflakes, I was taught sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Is Nilaus just hard to follow, or have I achieved _Idiocracy?_ (2006). I specifically don't want all his blueprints, because that takes away the fun of the game, but learning how he makes his "city blocks" on a meta level will help me make my own, and permutations using his design principles. I'm trying to learn his approach to the game's puzzles, not how to solve the game's puzzles. _________________________________________ * I also have an adv degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, so unlike Nilaus (and my bro a Master's in Computer Sci/Computer Engineering) I'm not exactly a super duper algo guy, but I'm close to the hole... I would think. My bro got jealous I got that degree after he getting his cause he thought mine was harder to attain. It was, but may not be as applicable to this problem domain as I first suspected. Then again, I'll always assume it's the NSA manipulating the flicker rate of my LED lights to induce a stupid brain state (/sk, but completely true at the same time.)
