Excellant, informative video and equipment narrative. Very enjoyable and brings back memories of fishing those waters near Hoffman's island. Thanks for sharing.

You can tell they were new to gulp " I think I can get one on with just the gulp tail alone" the bite is so good....The Asian crews were fishing the hi lo gulp rigs 5 years before the American's picked up on it then it took NJ'ers even years longer to adopt it.

That is a Mustad 7/0 hook and is actually a very reasonable size...we use that bucktail all the time and catch all sizes on it

Hi. Love your videos. Very informative. You guys are very genuine. Are you fishing in the shipping channel between Hoffman island and Coney island? I have fished in that channel and its like 50'. You guys said its like 80' deep in your videos. Maybe I am talking about the wrong place. Thanks in advance. Keep up the great videos. Dave

Love your videos. I am new to fishing in Raritan area. Tried the other day, just south of Verrazano on the western edge. Was using bucktail with gulps attached. No way 4 oz could hold the bottom between the current and slight breeze. Can you point me in the right direction both takle and location? I would truly appreciate any help. Love your videos!!

need to design the heavier 2oz+ bucktails with swinging hooks the fish get way to much leverage with those heavy buck tails it helps them throw the hook to easy, especially when using braid.

the only 6 oz bucktail that I see is the syntail but says it has a 7/0 I'm really having a hard time finding a heavy bucktail with a small hook any help?
@henrye718
@henrye718 9 лет назад
+Thomas Galgano make your own with a bucktail mold. Or if you know someone who makes buck tails have them make them with the hook you specify.

Do you fish there at dead tide and drift off the wind or fish when the tides running?
@neangling
@neangling 8 лет назад
You really need to fish when the tide is moving. You may need to use a very large bucktail if you have wind against tide or alternatively use the boat's propulsion to counter the wind (stemming).
@henrye718
@henrye718 8 лет назад
With vertical jigging technique you can catch fish even in dead slack tide. Trust me I have done it many many times, give it a try.. Just keep moving the bucktail and make that gulp tail swim.

I assure you it was alive...please note how deep we were fishing...that fish was on the line a long time

Im an avid flounder fisherman... love it. Even at 120 ft depth... the smallest flounder will attempt and escape trying to spit the jig or flop out of your hands. That monster doesnt show any signs of life. Definitely an impressive catch... just unfortunate you missed filming the actual fight.
