A spectacular summer flounder (fluke) fishing trip that is a good example of the factors involved in considering when to stay on a spot or move.

fluke is the one fish I can't seem to get the hang of. I find structure, bait and drift but rarely catch a fluke. thanks for inspiring me to keep trying! you guys make it look easy.

It's really great to see the thought process you have behind staying or moving John. Thanks!

I'm glad you appreciated it. I was trying to let the dialog on the boat play out rather than narrate so that could all come across. "Stay or move" is often a tough call.

I LOVE that boat! John. Perhaps before your next trip, you could get Rick to give us a walk through regarding features, and ALL of your opinions in comparison to fiberglass, wood etc.. Watching all those fluke made me terribly hungry :)

I've adopted the John Skinner "bury the hook in their face" hook set...real crowd pleaser and highly effective. thank you John!
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 6 лет назад
The bigger the fish are, the more important that you have a firm hookset with the right gear, especially in deeper water. Such a great feeling to set hard and not have the rod budge.

John Skinner Fishing yes sir. With my tsunami acid wrapped rod it’s a really effective combo. Best fluke season I’ve ever had since reading your books and studying the techniques. Thank you John

Good call John. They say never leave biting fish. It would be interesting to see bottom footage while drifting. Would you see the flounder or do they cover in sand? I've seen your footage of fish going for lures. Pretty amazing.

Not sure how to feel about that aluminum boat. Sure it'll last forever but I bet it gets hot and I don't think I could deal with all the noise
@jackh7545
@jackh7545 6 лет назад
John, the rod you are using is modified one? I cut my tsunami h rod 6 inch from top, not 4 inch as you did on other video and it handles 4 ounce bucktail perfect under heavy current. Do you think tsunami slow jigging rod h with maxel setup will be ok for over 5 ounce bucktail?
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 6 лет назад
I'm using either the Classic "H" cut back or an older model that they don't sell anymore that is basically the same thing. I don't like the slow pitch for this kind of jigging. If I have to go to 5+ ounce, I'll use the XH.
@crispychris9492

Do you ever find that the height of the teaser makes you get more or less bites? And are you mostly targeting sandy flats or bottom with structure?
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 6 лет назад
I run the teaser a foot up for these fish, and having watched them react on my underwater videos, that seems about right. This is a mix of sand and rocks.
@pgmtbiker

Hey John, can you explain what you’re doing when field dressing these fluke in the bucket? Are you slashing gills or...?
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 6 лет назад
Yes - and It was cut across the gills to bleed out. When the cop interrupted me I wanted to get it iced because I wasn't sure how long he would stick around and it was hot out.

I am curious, when dropping the buck tail down, ? Do you bring it up off the bottom a little, and how much up off the bottom??
@JohnSkinnerFishing

I'm trying to jig a foot or so off the bottom.

Any thoughts on what caused the bite to turn on and off?
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 6 лет назад
It's often tide related. The window I never want to miss is 90 minutes either side of slack.

Will those tactics work in shallow bays and surf?
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 6 лет назад
Yes! with lighter weights. I've caught them on the Florida Gulf coast with this rigging. If you look at the fluke or flounder playlist and go back to 2016 and further, you'll see videos from shallow water, shore, and jetty.

Why do you reel up the fish so slowly?
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 6 лет назад
Just putting steady pressure on the bigger ones. We're using 15-pound-test braid, and these fish can take strong lunges for the bottom.
