Enjoyed your vid. I can answer your question about why the ground button was removed for the pro version. I was an EE on the T-1000/T600 development team at Fluke and this was not a safety issue all since the ground button is isolated from the black lead by 1 Megohms. This does add small error to AC voltage measurement when compared to holding the black lead tip with bare fingers, which adds 3% error per foot note [2] in the ACV spec sheet. Shortly after the T6 went to market, Fluke's marketing team found the ground button was not used by professional electricians in the field because they wear gloves. The Pro's spec sheet could also remove the accuracy foot note that adds 3% to FieldSense ACV measurements when not hard grounding the black lead. This was just a marketing trick to make the Pro seem like a better meter when it is the same internal circuitry (sans button and protection circuit).

@10:21, time stamp... Thats a nice feature, to have both readings, at the same time(dual reading), and to be able to keep the wire nut, or wires , still connected how they were found, in the box.. And testing them in this way, checks, and varifies, if there are issues with the integrity of those wires connections, to each other....very nice.... Love.the Grounding Clamp, method, it seams like the best way to get accurate readings.... .thanks for the video.... Very informative....

I've had the back button one and returned it soon after. The issue I had was flakey readings and inaccuracies which I wasn't the only one many videos at the time complained including Ave. Some videos I saw also had to do with corrosion and failure of the coin on the back as well. Another one I saw was issues with grounding with the right combination of boots ppe and clothing. I'm trying to make money not problems so along with the backlight going to the pro was a easy choice. Just the visual quick check saves time when there's a rats nest of wires in a box. I got 6 or 7 cases off azon to find the slimmest case to protect it further and aproca hard carry case was the winner even over the real deal fluke case. I did see concerns over grounding to yourself and having a heart condition or pacemaker but fluke debunked that quickly as it is safe. Hope this helps and if you do even residential and don't wanna untangle that rats nest box it's worth every penny.

I have the T6-600 and find it super handy. If I could go back, I would've bought the 1000. I think you made a good choice there, MM. I've found that grouding the lead for FS voltage measurements yields more accurate readings, but that doesn't always matter for simple troubleshooting. The T6 series also has a built-in LoZ filter for eliminating ghost voltages. Pretty handy, considering not even my 87V has one! The LoZ has helped me out a few times troubleshooting power supply units for industrial controls.

I just purchased the 378fc just for field sense when dealing with 480v 3 phase hvac electrical. The safety of not having to use my leads is definitely comforting. My diagnosis time has decreased overall, and it has a few other tricks up its sleeve. I love the larger dual readout screen. I was actually considering getting the T6-1000 (non pro) just for the fact that you dont have to use the black lead as a ground. My 378fc also needs the black grounded but has a standard clamp, and field sense is at the tip of the clamp. This allows me to hang it on a wire and then turn on the power so its hands free. Plus, with fluke connect, I can put in a unit with the panels on and get the measurements on my phone. I do wish mine had the ground button on the back as an option, not having to mess with leads at all would be nice. As far as the t6 and t6 pro. You get better accuracy, and the field sense area is larger. It's not much larger, but when sticking your hand in a panel, every little bit helps.
@MORGANSMaintenance
@MORGANSMaintenance 6 месяцев назад
Yeah, If it was for accuracy, I wish they had just left the button as an option and stated for better accuracy use lead/alligator clip… but maybe it became a safety thing. Maybe even a safety thing for goobers using it wrong 😂 I would have liked to have to option to go lead-less when the few extra bolts here/there didn’t matter. I figured the Backlight and Holster were worth getting the Pro over the button. I almost just bout the 1000 though, and was just going to buy the clip and use it when I needed better accuracy.

This IS my every-day carry in a professional industrial setting. It's sensitivity may not be sufficient under certain troubleshooting situations, so I'll use the Fluke 375 FC clamp meter or 789 ProcessMeter when finer data is necessary. I like this T6-1000 so much that I bought one for home use. I've been using these for several years, and I highly recommend them! (I think there has been some question of safety concerning possible continuity between the ground lead and the finger ground if the ground lead were to be placed on a hot wire. I've not experienced any such problem, but perhaps just the thought of possibility was sufficient for Fluke to nix it.)
@MORGANSMaintenance
@MORGANSMaintenance 6 месяцев назад
Appreciate your thoughts. I think I’m really going to like it. I wondered about the ground button because if it’s not a safety issue I didn’t understand why they would get rid of it. Accuracy may be less… but you could have left it an option and stated, for best accuracy use lead or alligator clip. If it was a safety issue, I wondered what was happening
@Paine137
@Paine137 6 месяцев назад
A quasi-hack for traditional clamp meters, to achieve somewhat similar dual-readings (though not exactly simultaneously), is to use a FLIR TA55. You could measure the amperage, then quickly switch to voltage and insert the leads into the same unit.

I've got the old style T6 1000 and clamping it to ground it is more accurate than using the finger pad. The pro version was adapted more towards commercial and industrial where there might be noise and it would be useful to have a continuity light as well as expanding the field sense area in the fork. If you're wearing gloves, the finger pad won't be much use anyway so I figure they just cut to the chase and get a better result all around. My meter is true RMS and says so on the sticker however I noticed the new stickers don't have true RMS written on them below T6 1000 model number. Probably a marketing invitation just to go to the next level. Which is all good.

👍👍 Appreciate the info. I assumed it would be for accuracy. Still seems like they could just leave the button and then state, for better accuracy use the ground clamp. That way you had both options. I like how you demonstrated the with the alligator clip on your finger it still basically works. I honestly can’t think of a way that you would ever get shocked doing that, because your red lead should be tucked away and the forks are solid plastic. My guess is someone realized that taking away the metal button doesn’t really take away the feature - because you can still use it exactly how you demonstrated with the alligator clip on your finger. And maybe the legal/marketing team liked that better because then you have to know what you’re doing and be paying attention to your black lead. I think it all comes down to paying attention to your leads. If you were really careless and letting them dangle in a high voltage situation, maybe there’s a way that the button becomes hazardous.

I would think it would be that more than safety. If there were safety issues I would think you would have found some results of it while searching for answers. Since there is no real answers out there, it seems like it’s just something Fluke chose to do, more than had to do. Probably tired of dealing with complaints or something.

OSHA considers meter probes as an extension of your hand for approach distance purposes. The utility I work for has a 13" approach distance to 480v and as such you need to be in the properly rated gloves to use meter. Fluke may have had concerns about customers using this meter bare handed in such situations. I think being able to use field sense function while fully gloved makes good sense and removing the exposed button is more likely a safety consideration......

No I haven’t. I have had it for probably 10 years or so and If I could only have one meter, it does everything I need one to do. You can get some models below it that don’t have capacitance for a little cheaper if it’s something someone doesn’t use. It gives accurate and fast readings. It’s pretty instant on capacitance, where some of the cheaper models I’ve tried (KAIWEETS, etc). They will check it, but it takes several seconds. Not a big deal to wait a few seconds, but during those seconds I always end up moving my probes thinking I’m not touching something correctly which starts those seconds all over again.
@p01am3a
@p01am3a 6 месяцев назад
field sense is a bit less accurate compared with the amps and voltage measurements you have as options on the rotary switch; I believe that on the pro model you don’t have the touch pad to avoid the controversy on being a potential hazard, but from the testing that I’ve seen so far, it should not be a risk under normal usage by a trained technician - see joe smith clips with the t6 600 testing; around the house I use a t6 600 and it’s enough for general electric stuff, for pv I have another clampmeter; at work I use a fluke 376 fc, some brymen and metrel testers, which I trust more in an industrial environment

I am an electrician by trade and was in a situation where customer lost one of the hot legs in a 3 phase system and was trying to trace it back to the Utility company. Good thing there was a splice in a junction box next to the electrical meter socket. I was able to get a reading there at the Polaris taps. Sure enough the lost leg was coming from the main line from the pole above. Had there not been that splice box this meter would have been the only way to trace it back up to the Utility company by simply using the fork to wrap around the overhead line and get my reading there. The meter isn't as accurate when using the contact pad, it cannot be used when insulated gloves are being worn and is also dependent upon the person using it, what they were wearing and work location. It got a lot of stick from some professional electricians and was seen as a bit of a gimmick as it was a bit erratic in use. I believe the pro version also has a larger field sense area than the original to help with the erratic nature of the measurement.
@MORGANSMaintenance

Yes, it does state that it has a larger FieldSense area.. I’m not sure if that’s just between the 600 and 1000 Pro, or even the 1000 and 1000 Pro too. The readings when using the lead/clip has been pretty much right on with my 324. You don’t get as many decibels is really the biggest difference, so there is some rounding that takes place.

Mine has the ground on the back. I don't like it. Sometimes it works, and other times, it does not plus You cannot wear your arc flash gloves

That would Be my guess. To me if it was safety you would be able to find instances of it along with a recall. I wonder if the connection from lead to ground button didn’t work well some times🤷‍♂️

they just need to add capacitance to the meter. then it would be perfect

Do you have product number for alligator clip?
@MORGANSMaintenance
@MORGANSMaintenance 5 месяцев назад
I believe they are the AC285 SureGrip.. I don’t think they sell just the black, but only in a set amzn.to/4a3269O I’m sure there are probably other brands that will work on the leads though

@@MORGANSMaintenance ok there are clip for less than 10$ but do not include adapter? They also say AC285?

@@frankspliff7037 mine works without an adapter. You just pull the regular lead off and replace with the clip. The Fluke website just says “includes AC285 SureGrip Alligator Clip”

I think they decided to take a direct approach because of inexperienced Joe’s on the Learning curve.

I lean towards that myself. Even something as simple as the Black lead had to be fully inserted for the ground button to work…. I can see people complaining it doesn’t work due to user error in several situations.
