Immutable data helps build reliable distributed systems. But determining who is who, who can see what, and what do when the answers to those questions change requires complex systems that are challenging to create, understand, and maintain. Expressing those constraints as data in your database and enforcing them at the data layer can make new types of collaborative applications possible.
Fluree is a free and open source graph database written in Clojure and built to facilitate collaborative data-driven applications. It builds off of W3C open data standards like JSON-LD and RDF to create an immutable triple store that auditably tracks data changes over time. According to the needs of the application it can provide a self-describing, verifiable record of transactions that tracks the provenance of the data, guarantees its consistency, and opens it up for collaboration. This talks explores the technology under the hood and what sort of new applications easily shareable data enables.
