There was already tension between the two as it was anyway, especially after the development of Curse of the Were Rabbit, since apparently Dreamworks kept pressuring Aardman to americanise the film (which Aardman firmly said no too) Glad Aardman said no tho, I cannot imagine Wallace without Peter Sallis, pop culture references, and without the classic coin gag with Gromit and Phillip

Terrible marketing, like a lot of the Dreamworks gems that failed the box office; Megamind, Monsters Vs Aliens, Rise of the Guardians. That last one was pretty much unknown until it premiered. At least from where I was at the time. And they marketed them to the wrong demographic. One thing that I've noticed with these Dreamworks pics that have cult status, is that it's by adults. Because adults love the humor in these movies. Like the Queen of England joke in Megamind, a kid won't catch onto that. And thus, Shrek is being milked for another sequel, while goldies like these die from neglect. Side note: Flushed Away is via corroboration with Aardman, so not as simple an issue as the others mentioned.

The best part about this is that not only are all the obvious french stereotypes there, but it also features Jean Reno as Le Frog. And touching on that, the cast in this movie is mildly insane. For a goofy kid's claymation movie with singing slugs, you've got Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslett(on a boat that sank again, ofc), you've got Bill Nighy and Andy Serkis playing rat henchmen(Davy Jones and Gollum), you've got Jean Reno(big name french actor), you've got Ian McKellan(Magneto) playing the main bad guy, and basically no one is phoning it in at all. They're all being Silly, but they're all giving 1000% to the job of being silly goobers and it works so damn well.

The mime acting out Toad's body language is one of my favorite visual gags in an animated movie. It reminds me of classic Three Stooges/Looney Tunes era humor. I think my favorite bit is at 1:55 where Le Frog tells the mime to "look" at Rita, but when the mime turns around it's revealed Toad has physically turned around himself, even though logically from his point of view he has no reason to do that.

Fun facts about Flushed Away: the voice actor for Le Frog, Jean Reno, is Spanish-French (Aardman hired him cuz they realized that the French jokes would be much funnier and more authentic if an actual Frenchman voiced them) It was originally intended as a pirate movie, which DreamWorks dubbed "unmarketable" at the time, plus the technology was not yet up to speed to combine that much water with claymation. Unlike most cases, however, it has since been resolved thanks to the existence of The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (also called The Pirates! Band of Misfits outside of the UK) Sid was originally going to be voiced by Ricky Gervais but he left at some point during pre-production, giving the role to Shane Richie. As mentioned above, Roddy also was supposed to have hamster butlers by the names of Gilbert and Sullivan, if what was expected in the trailer to be true. They're only in the video game. They were removed because it wouldn't make sense for them to be in the plot of Roddy being a loner.

I know im way too late for this comment, but am I the only one who noticed the Beauty and The Beast reference near the start? When all of the fogs pop up, they say "Bonjour" in the exact same timing the villagers do in the beginning of the opening song 'Belle.' I've watched this movie tons of times and I have only just noticed this 😂
