I like how much info is on the box .Guess it's good advertising if it's sitting on a shelf at a store. Ya those plastic clamps don't give ya a lot of confidence. Looks like a great little system. Self priming the best.. wow what an impeller and magnet .. You make it look easy. I have only used canister filters in the pond and they were terrible so it's nice to see one that puts confidence back in them. Isn't there always a problem lol Time to drain yet once again 😂 It's doing a great job. That tank is looking awesome
Peace of mind is one of the prominent features of this FX series I reckon bud. First filter I've had that I haven't felt I've needed to watch for hours once set up and keep checking on it every five minutes thereafter. Somewhat to do with the reputation of the filters backed up by playing with it whilst setting it up and noticing how good all the parts and features are.
Thanks very much Alison. Glad to hear you like yours too. I wouldn't have been happy to rip the Juwel filter out for just any brand and so far I'm not disappointed.
We are putting a goldfish tank together (55 gal) and was locked in on the FX2 but am wondering if an FX4 would be total overkill in that tank. I am not worried about price, just want to make sure we filter enough! We have several tanks but have always been a salt/reef type so this is new stuff. THANKS and awesome video!
Very thorough and well done review, Daniel! I also like how it splits the outflow so you can choose how you want that. The impeller looks more like a jet turbine than any impeller I've seen! An idea for the lid: there's a black plastic board, (maybe 5-6mm thick) that we got a sheet of at the home improvement store and used to make panels for covering the electrics under my racks. It's pretty tough, I wonder if you can get something like that? You might be able to make a hinged lid with it if you can get short enough screws or run black electrical tape along the seam of both halves on both sides. Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure out a good solution! Looks like a great filter, hope you're having a nice week! 🙂👍
Thanks very much for the suggestion Tara. I will need to look at what the hardware stores have although the ones around here aren't great it has to be said. Haha.. more like a jet turbine... right. 😉👍
Can’t stand these Daniel but you did a great video on it and we hope it works out well for you….we have an FX4 on the closet and it’ll probably stay there lol😀😀👍👍
Hi Dan ny... wow I had no idea they made a 2!! What a wonderful opportunity for you!! I'm a Fluval gal!! I noticed how curious your fish were while watching you!!
Yeah Deb. I think they idea of the 2 is to maintain the high level performance in a size that fits more people's cabinets. I'm super impressed with it so far. My fish tend to be super nosy. They're like me when I notice a delivery in a cake or fish store haha..
Great review, I just added the Fx2 to my 150 gallon. I like to use air stones but the instruction says not to. I notice you have some in your tank I think. Do you use air stones?
450 litres. It's a Juwel Rio. Think it's an amazing filter. Only thing is on the Rio the tubes are a bit wide and push the lid up. If that's not a problem for the tank you have I would definitely recommend this filter. I had to cut the lid on the Rio to get it to sit right. I recorded it so I'll get a video up about it when I get a chance.
been looking for a new filter as my juwel bioflow has started to send electricity all round my tank its even on the foam i have on the back and has started to affect my corals so had to remove it .. this one looks like it would do an excellent job
Hi Daniel, just having a binge on all of your videos tonight. I bought a Juwel tank today and I was just wondering, what's the best way to remove the factory included filter from the glue fixing? Did you just use a blade? or did you heat it or something? Sorry if that's a stupid question haha. Cheers mate
Hi Eco. I literally just uploaded a video on how I did it. Not saying it's optimal but a few people have commented that it's pretty much how they did it too. Here's the video, hope it helps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sIKF5kOLvxU.html
To get over the problem of the lid hitting the pipes at the rear, I would just cut the corners off. You can get used or new flaps for a fraction of the cost of new lights and messing with diy covers. I think as you said branding the plug would be good, maybe make it red also.
I keep debating on these . I’ve read fx6 leak and are noisy and a pain to clean. I’m assuming the fx2 are the same I would just love more flow rate on my 6x2x2 . Just can’t decide
Been worry and leak free so far. I will do an update a bit further along and let folk know how it's going but no reason to expect it not to be very reliable.
I added the new Aquael Hypermax 4500 to my new Juwel Rio 450. Not officially released here yet. This filter has two inlets and two outlets. I have a video on my channel... I just butchered the lid. 😊 Doesn't bother me. But I can understand if you would rather not. Easier than moving the tank for me. I wasn't fussy but you could do a far neater job than I did! I also did it years ago with a Juwel tank to add a Fluval 405.
The carbon pads are really nice. They do the job of carbon, then they do the job of a mechanical/bio filter. Carbon doesn't release anything back into the tank, for those who don't know.
Every fx filter has design errors. You say having your tank close to the wall isnt thier fault but no packaging tells you how much space you need between wall and tank, do they think we have them in middle of our rooms.
The Juwels are lovely tanks, yes the filter is built in but it works and everything is hidden, i loathe canisters these days, too awkward and bulky etc.
I gave up on canisters a while back too mate and I didn't have any problem with the built in filter at all. Took a special filter for me to even consider going back to canisters let alone ripping the Juwel filter out.
Oh I don't know, I kinda like them compared to the typical boring pipes most other manufacturers use particularly the clear ones where you can see the waste building up in them. I kinda like the classic black Fluval pipes and the way they are ridged so handle bends with pinching. Guess that's one of the cool things about our hobby though, always different options and we all prefer different ones hey.
@@DanielKeepingFish ribbed for your pleasure 😁 you’re absolutely right, different strokes! There are those who like to satisfy their OCD with clear hoses and lily pipes. I’ve completely gone off the eheim green and now don’t mind Sicce’s grey silicone! Haven’t actually seen Fluval’s ribbed hoses up close to be honest but they remind me too much of exposed laundry drains! 😁👍
Am on the verge of ordering a replacement cover so I can cut that instead but that's one of the cool things a out our hobby hey; always more than one way of achieving a result.
