Until recently, I found Playground V2.5 to be the most effective model for my needs.
While I do not utilize ComfyUI, I keep making/using Google Colab notebooks (I'm okay with paying $50 a month to get A100 GPUs). Of course, I made some for the DMD2 and the more recent FLUX.1-dev models.
I have found FLUX to be the most compelling model I have used thus far. That said, I continue to rely on DMD2 for its textural qualities, artistic styles, and innovative capabilities. FLUX demonstrates strong obedience to prompts, while DMD2 offers a more exploratory and creative process. I rarely seek perfection, instead using dynamic prompting to get errors and ideas.
Achieving desired styles in FLUX is possible, but requires prompting and detailed descriptions of the target aesthetic, including references (styles, techniques, cameras, lighting, periods, etc.).
Replicating the work of artists like Saul Leiter or Jeffrey Catherine Jones, for example, can be particularly challenging, as their signature styles are the result of nuanced creative approaches.
I should create with one and fix with the other one. Wait a minute... :-)
