So you changed from a DCMT style insert to a CCMT style insert. Probably a better explanation that pointy inserts 😂. I wonder how a round insert would fare?
Thanks for your input, the original works fine on a very light cut, but if pressure is applied for a deeper cut, a wall is created & builds onto the face of the carbide. So I tried the higher rake, which works to an extent, being a Negative Rake, whereas others say the best is a positive rake. When my new mill comes in shortly, I'll try the positive rake to see how it goes Otherwise both of the carbides give a very smooth finish
I think I’m having a problem with my mill where I think the quill is hopping up and down. I’m getting a lot of vibration and I’m tying everything down that I can, but flycutting right now is pretty scary. lol
G'day. Thanks for your Input & question. First you need to check make sure you have minimal backlash on your fine feed on the quill. Check out my video on the Quill Modification. Also in some cases you need to slightly preload the quil when using fly cutter or endmill etc If you are still having problems you will need to possibly first try to tightness the top quill nuts, where the draw bar is. If that is ok, then you might have to fit New Spindle Barings with shims etc. Hope this helps a bit.
