In this episode we are fly fishing for trout on tiny Michel Creek, using streamers, nymphs and dry flies to catch and release beautiful Cutthroat trout on a crisp clear October day with full Fall colors. We just have one permitted day on Michel Creek and want to make the most of it so we are out early on this chilly morning. Even though we are there early, the fish are not biting. We start with nymphs and streamers but it is a couple of hours before the first hookup using a dark bodied streamer in a tiny little side channel that deepens just enough in combination with the brush cover along the side to allow a really nice fish to hold in it. The fishing continues to pick up as the day and water warm together. We start catching more fish, with really good size to them, using a double beaded Stonefly nymph. We catch and release many fish on both of these including a small Bull Trout and then getting a short window of dry fly fishing near the end of the day using Blue-Winged Olives. We really enjoyed the Fall colors on this day of fishing in British Columbia.
Fly Fishing with Ladin's primary purpose is to share fly fishing techniques and places to fly fish in the Western United States. We are a dedicated fly fishing RU-vid channel promoting catch and release fly fishing. Our motto is having fun catching and releasing fish. We want to share our passion with others. We are not professionals. We are passionate about fly fishing but we do not take ourselves to seriously. We show our mistakes, falling in, getting flies stuck in wrong places, loosing fish. The same things that all of us experience fly fishing. We have been fly fishing northwest waters for over forty years. But we are always learning new things that we like to pass along. We think our channel is a great place to get ideas for fly fishing vacations and weekend trips.

A pleasure watching. A couple of likable guys, no annoying background music, no profanity.

I’ve fished a lot of places over the last 40 years, and Michel Creek is one of my favorites.

Wonderful how good fishing can be when you have to pay and book your appointment. May as well fish in an aquarium.

Not sure I catch the connection between management of a resource and an aquarium. But to each there own.

I had a two days there last year in November but the snows had come so didn’t go out. Seeing your video I will need to shoot for October next year!

re your bull trout. An experienced East Kootenay angler told me that he liked drifting a black leech pattern under an indicator for bull trout. Precisely how you took yours!

how did you get the classified water permit for michel creek?

Same site to buy license online. www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/sports-culture/recreation/fishing-hunting/fishing/recreational-freshwater-fishing-licence. But you have to get them pretty far in advance for some waters. Usually you can get a permit easier if you go with a guide.
