Fly Fishing for Bass Part 3 Techniques #bassonthefly #flyfishing
In part 3 of Fly Fishing for Bass I talk about techniques. Here are a few basic techniques that will help you catch more bass on the fly. Please let me know if you have any questions about fly fishing for bass or any ideas for future bass on the fly videos.
A couple of my favorite bass rods:

I'd be interested to see what goes into fly selection when you're on the river. Not necessarily specific types of flies but color, sink rate, where in the water column you fish it.

Hey Alvin, I'm a big fan of your videos it really helps a lot! I'm from Quebec, Canada and I was wondering if the same techniques apply to the Big White North for Bass. I was also wondering if you're using different retrieve techniques depending on the fly you are fishing. Let’s say I am a big fan of woolly bugger. Will it be the same stripping pattern that I would use for a popper, or a clouser minnow? Thanks again!

holy cow! I stumbled onto your channel searching for help with Fly Fishing in general, and found; perhaps the best Fly Fishing RU-vid channel on the net. Ive watched all three beginner segments and appreciate all the info..very helpful. All Ive got to do now is get my casting skills up to and save a few $$ to book a guided trip with ya., My goal is to catch a fish any kind of fish but preferably a Redfish, on the fly. I live in Houston originally from New Jersey. I fish from a skiff mostly salt water but started out here in Texas fishing for Bass fish which is really my first love.

Great stuff,especially rod tip in water and strip set. 2 suggestions; on first strike, keep line tight to move fish in first second 5 to 10 feet from cover. Keep line under casting hand finger, strip with left. 2; heavy flies need open loop but good casting means keep rod tip in one plane. You allude to use of thumb; a very tiny, quick thumb push lowers rod tip out of fly path and opens loop. The other option is to come to sudden stop and then drop rod tip inches which opens loop. But stress the complete sudden stop required before dropping rod tip. Another item for future discussion; line count down vs how leader and weighted fly sink at different rates. And then how fly sink rate effects fishing depth and fly movement. Your presentation/speaking style is very real and easy to understand; thanks again.

I encourage all my fellow trout weenies to fish more stillwater, so you can learn to strip-set instead of doing the trout set you know and love. Bonus points for learning the hybrid haul-set while fishing for tiny trout in freestones with an 8-weight. Fly rodding for bass is a great game, fantastic coverage of the basics, Alvin. When I tie them up they usually end up being around 7'. I'll go longer if I want to get the fly down deeper, or shorter to help throw those big topwater flies.

Yo alvin,your wife seems to be a great fly fisher and boat operator too.does she take folks out as well?

Yes she is a guide as well. She does most of the booking and operations for our guide service allwaterguides.com/ so any chance she gets to be on the water instead of behind the computer makes her real happy.

So we should strip set bass in rivers?
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing 4 года назад
Yeah we fish rivers 90% of the time and the strip set works in moving water.
