BREAKING MY $700 FLY ROD!!
Fly fishing for big brown trout is easily my favorite thing to do when it's on!! In this video I go nymphing for brown trout with a buddy of mine on one of my favorite rivers. With rain recently bumping the river up a little bit the fish were very active. I caught 3 really good wild brown trout and a few nice native brook trout as well. This was one of my favorite days on the water this year and I hope you enjoy the video!

Lucas, the longer you fly fish the more rods you will break. It is just part of the sport. You will lose nets, loose flies, break reels, break rods, and drop cameras/phones in the water. Oh, and if you have a drift boat you will let your friend at the oars run into rocks and kill your boat. Just part of the fun.

Nice work. There are a lot lot worse ways to break a rod tip. Example, The two I’ve done over the years have been yanking, in frustration, after casting a rig into a tree😂. Great vids, awesome fishing, looks superb

Another great vid. Thanks, Jon. Perspectives on different sides of the Atlantic fascinate me. As kids growing up in England, we felt the brown trout were very much ours, whereas rainbows were the imports. Whatever, those native brook trout are the stars of your videos. They will always be an exotic species for me, and there cannot be a more beautiful freshwater fish.
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing Год назад
That's a crazy different perspective then we have in the states. Brook trout, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout are natives (west has native rainbows and cutties, east has brookies) but browns have taken over. We love browns but sometimes they're put in areas they really shouldn't be. But then again they're so fun to catch that not many people complain.

Browns are imports. Most from Germany circa 1880-1890's. They tolerate a wider range of water temperatures and conditions that are not favorable to rainbows and brookies. They are more likely to spawn and introduce multiple generations of "wild fish" as well. The largest fish I catch are browns.

@mpfishing5530
@mpfishing5530 Год назад
That’s blatantly false. Would be interesting to check back on this stream in 10 years and also compare it to how it was before browns were introduced to it. I’m Not one of those guys who is screaming for mass removals of brown trout, but there’s no reason we should tolerate brown trout in the same watershed as brook trout. It’s not just about a fisherman’s point of view, it’s looking at the ecosystem and realizing brown trout cannot fill the spot brook trout can. Btw brookies used to grow as big as some of these browns, before the browns were introduced. I think the scientists would know more than someone who just cares about the size of fish they catch
@hardmanfishing
@hardmanfishing Год назад
I don't think that's true.. imagine how many / big the brookies were before the browns were introduced.

Hey Lucas, sorry about what happened to your fly rod. Sadly, it happens more often than you might think. So mush so that I don’t even like to fly fish with expensive gear for precisely that reason. The way I’ve come to look at it is the fish you just landed doesn’t know the fly rod combo you used to reel him in was just purchased at rock bottom prices at the local pawn shop. But both of you really have me enjoying your videos. Particularly on days when the weather won’t cooperate for me to get outside myself. 😇
