The Western March Brown Hatch occurs in mid-April and continues for a couple weeks. Trout go crazy for the big mayflies as the water warms on spring days. I set out to go fly fishing with my fishing buddy, Dave, but am distracted by the insect drama unfolding beneath my feet at the river's edge.
Watch a March Brown nymph crawl onto a rock, uncase its shuck, and emerge into a glorious mayfly. If you like trout insect videos, this is right up your alley. I also videoed trout underwater rising and eating the mayfly duns from the surface. I had to catch a few to get my fishing fix for the day!
And as an added bonus, a Blue Grouse won't allow me to pass. We scuffle and I get away without a scrape. Oh, life in Montana!
I'm dressed very fashionably. Oversized Hodgman neoprene waders without gravel guards - sexy! But hey, they are warm. A Facebook follower suggested neoprene waders for when I film fish underwater in winter. They've been awesome.
I'm Lisa. I'm a fly fishing nerd. Subscribe to my channel for more fly fishing videos and underwater trout scenes.
