Congratulations from Canada on a fight well fought - that was a slugfest, and it could easily have hung you up on the snags in that run. European pike are considerably fatter than ours, and this one was a bruiser. Love it when you have to go in after them, once you are swimming you are committed haha.
🌲🍀🐾🎣Yeah Man, That's What I'm Talking About! I fish small streams with spinner baits all the time for Smallmouth Bass & Pike in the U.S. midwest, and often I have to go in (or fall in) to the water to land a pike. That's just the way it "is". So worth it though! That's the HEART"💗" POUNDING EXCITEMENT that "Lures" me to this kind of fishing😉🎣🐾🍀🌲.
YOU'R'E ENJOYING THE THRILL OF A LIFE TIME, ON SUCH A SMALL WATERWAY. I WAS STATIONED IN HANAU, IN THE EARLY 70'S, AND WONDER IF YOU HAVE EVER FISHED THE MAIN RIVER. KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
michael sandrey many thanks! So cool you were stationed in Germany! Heard many good stories about the US soldiers back then. I haven’t fished the Main River yet, but my brother lives in that region. He does catch very nice zander (walleye) and asp there.
@@troutfishinggermany9186 hello from Canada my friend 😉 I am a new subscriber and yesterday I catch some sheep heads and sucker fish with my doggo Munchie 💪🤠 can't wait to see a new fishing video from you 😬🚬
A pike used to eating trouts, delicious dishes swaying limply just over his head, for sure usually grows up rapidly. Thanks for providing us with such a breathtaking video ! Happy man !!
The happiest man alive!!! You can tell by its proportions that it is not a really old fish, but one that grew fast, as you said! For a pike of that size, the head is not really big.
a real fly fisherman's thrill once connected to a beast with complicated terrain....loved the part when you slipped under...pike almost in (a normal but far too small in this case) net...than watched the monster passing downstream...good decision to let her go a bit down and later in muddied cloud....probably helping....btw, how much water did you get in waders (seems jacket was snug enough not to get too much)....grrrrreat dynamic video 👌
Boris Hrasovec 😂 yes my waders took a little water but when you are connected to a fish you feel no cold. The net was definitely too small! Many thanks for the detailed comment my friend!
Flying fishing for pike seen it all now .. Though bear in mind i've never seen anyone use that method not even the late n great John Wilson RIP . Like all things in life you learn something new everyday ...
From one fly fisherman to another. That is what it is, a pleasure. Here where I live in East Kentucky there are lakes and streams with big muskellunge living in them. I’m going to give it a shot this year. The rod I will be using is one I wrapped 20 years ago.It is a 11wt. Used it one time. Thanks for the video and tight lines.
I lost a muskie about the same size it was attacking ng a large bream on my stringer. I went to the stringer & instead of a snake there was glowing angery eyes looking right at me. I took the whole bream off the stringer hooked it to my largest treble hook then pitched it right to him like a bone to a dog. He grabbed it & took off he striped about 30 ft of line then I set the hook by closing the bail on my Mitchell 500. After a wild fight I slide him about 6-8 ft on the muddy bank. I slipped he threw the table hook & grabbed him like a hog wrestling competition. Into the water we went. I lost. I regretted not dragging him further into the woods & keeping him I never caught such a monster. It's still on my mind. Congratulations ! On your gorgeous fish 🎣
That sounds like quite an adenture, sorry you lost that fish, hope you will find that fish again one day! Still that fight would have been an awesome video!
Awesome video👍. I was waiting for some Rammstein to start when you set the hook😀. Your net was larger than I thought...was thinking " He brought a knife to a gun fight".
I landed one that size but it threw my treble hook it fought back to the water! I wrested it but the bank was slippery & I lost it. Good Luck 🎣 I'm glad you succeeded! Great fish & on fly rod! Maybe one day I'll get back to my hot spot!
@@troutfishinggermany9186 thank you. I had plans to go back but in that part of our country it's kinda if your mixed my wife is Latina. Plus my health is not good, but thanks for sharing your fishing 🎣. I ended up waist deep in water , like you! Thanks again.
PESCA ACTIVA wow, thanks for your greetings from the other side of the world! Hope you are doing well and fishing is still possible in the current situation!?
Thank you! Yes this fish was truely amazing, and somehow my thirst for pike fishing died down a bit after catching this one... can't get much better I guess.
Haha yeah thanks mate! That music reflects 100% how I felt in that situation - everthing else just disappeared from my perception, kinda like being on drugs (or at least how I imagine it to be).
Just an observation, looks like a a young Muskellunge (Muskie) I'm from MN an we used to fish Pike and muskie quite a bit. Their are hybrids as well but I think landed a beautiful young Muskellunge my friend.
Drake Stone-Smolinski thanks for your comment, the pike is rather lightcolored and so I understand your notion. But this is a stream in central Europe, we don’t have muskie here and accordingly also no hybrids, the coloration and pattern of this pike has something to do with the milky water it lives in. But I would love to fish for muskie one day, they are truely beautiful and impressive fish!
Dan Brunski well to keep him from disappearing into the roots of the trees it also needs some luck. I have lost pikes in the botanics in the past, so i learned from that, that I have to apply a decent amount of pressure, have not fear, and believe in the tackle! If you chose leader and hook wisely, it shouldn’t fail!
Awesome catch mate 👍🏼 must feel amazing having a beast like that on a fly rod. Quick question what is the make of that fishing net you are using with the built in scales?
Shawn Dobson many thanks. If you are in Southern Germany you are welcome to contact me through Facebook or email if you need any help or if you would like to join me for a day fishing 👍
I see your video in the youtube recommendations....well done google, this guy makes my day. Awesome action footage, the casting, the fight, the netting,....I've enjoyed everything. Please keep on the gopro with the fishing stuff.
Josetxo Roncal many thanks for the kind words! I have a lot more footage and will be editing it soon! More videos to come, hope you will like them too!
Great video! If I can suggest something, it seems to me that you're worrying more than necessary about mending your line while fishing streamers. A dead drift isn't so important for most streamer fishing since you're simulating the movement of a forage fish that has the ability to resist the current. In fact, I find that a nice belly in the line accurately simulates the movement of a forage fish in the current - that is, able to move across the current close to the banks where the laminar flow reduces the pressure from the current, while getting swept away towards the center of the stream, where the current is strongest. This kind of swing is very popular in spey fishing, for example, and is especially effective on larger rivers.
Massangler1856 many thanks for you detailed answer and the advice! In this case though, mending was the only way to give the streamer a bit of time to sink down. Without mending, the current would have pulled it to the surface. Maybe a sinktip or a heavier streamer would have made things easier...
Damn I miss fishing Deutschland some of the best fishing I've ever done. I have had a monster pike on a baitcast rig near a powerplant the damn fish straighten the hook almost straight out on a Daredevil spoon. And just how Serene that country is. My youngest was born in Schweinfurt.
ajbosin glad to hear you liked the fishing in Germany! There truely are some giants in our lakes and rivers. I hope one day your lost pike will be compensated for and you will catch an even bigger one!
Hey Guy !! How are you ? I am watching your fishing from Singapor , I really enjoy it so much. I like fishing too. Do you fish in lake all time or in Ocean too ?
Thank you! I fish in the ocean aswell. A video about fishing the Indian Ocean in Oman is on my channel, and a video about the Red Sea will be coming soon! What do you catch over in Singapore?
Wow...fishing with finesse....approach to “hole”......great casting....catching a fish that has teeth which are saber-edged without wire leader.( Musky and pike teeth look remarkable under magnification. Hence razor slices on bait pulled from fish mouth with premature hook set). All knots holding....Great vid!
@@troutfishinggermany9186 There was I think, a “the Freshwater Angler “series book ‘Northern Pike and Musky’ volume, had a micrograph photo of musky and pike teeth. As a young boy, I started to recognize the bite marks on the bait. Cagey late season bass scrape off the scales in mouth pattern, walleye leave couple punctures, but the pike and musky leave razor slashes. I thought the musky and pike teeth were needle-like, but under magnification, their teeth have saber-like edges. All the more credit for catching without a leader....really respect the finesse...the approach & cast & catch& release....
We can return them, which we do frequently. But we try not to let them get too numerous, as that would endanger the grayling and trout. And while pike are abundant in Germany, especially grayling have become very scarce. This is one of only a handful of rivers where they still thrive and reproduce.
Amazing Pike . You definitely need a bigger net though . I don't know where you live , but check out the folding nets from Savage Gear or Fox , or if in the UK check out Glasgow Angling centres Stillwater range of folding nets . They have one which is big enough to hold big fish , but has rubber mesh so better for the fish and stops hook snags . It is light enough and compact enough to be worn over your back also . Well done on a beautiful big Mama . I like the Hardy Demon rod as well . I have the #7 for my Stillwater trout angling . They are fantastic rods and effortless to cast .
Hey mate, many thanks for the suggestions. The net in the video is a McLean net, and it also has a rubber net. As you said, rubber nets have a lot of advantages. So far this net had always been big enough, but this pike was bigger than anything i had expect that day. Will buy a bigger one for sure!
@@troutfishinggermany9186 it was a monster Pike mate . You did extremely well landing it in the first place . A long landing net would have been handy , but they are sometimes not practical when you are traveling light and mobile .
This is why sometimes you catch a rainbow with a chomp all the way up the middle. It even happens at trout stocking events. I've pulled in some severely toothed up trout.
Exactly! I have had this here aswell. Sometimes the cuts on my beloved trouts is the only thing that betrays the presence of a pike in the vicinity. They have so much places to hide in this little stream, you never see them!
Wow what an amazing catch and great job filming it as you did it! Greetings from the great lakes state of Michigan in the United States where fishing is a way of life
Troutfishing Germany don’t be ashamed! fantastic fish and battle, just made me laugh that’s all! Can’t wait to get fly fishing again for brown trout once all this is over 👍🏼
Wonderful video, the suspense just before the pike took that fly was awesome! Did you see the Pike move to the fly or just feel the take? Just written a note to myself to start studying for my German fishing license after watching this!
david Elliott hello David, yes I saw a dark shadow follow the fly, and then a big mouth flashing bright when the pike inhaled it. You can see it on the original footage but unfortunately not on the final clip - I guess the resolution is too low on RU-vid.
Jose Salinas jr 😂 thanks buddy, really appreciate your frankness. Had some discussions with my wife about the sound aswell, she didn’t like it either... i promise to do avoid that in the future.
