Hey man, yes 🙌 know I have been quiet recently, mainly because the weather has been so bad lately, so vlogs/fishing videos do take many outings before I can compile something worthy watching. As for the livestreams I’m always happy to get them online, thank just need to o ow what you guys wanna watch or what fly you want me to tie. Drop me a pm on insta for that. I do have a Q&A coming, and will have it in my Instagram story tomorrow. 😉

Hey Norbert, after used one spool of 30 lbs bleeding wire, I ordered one of 45lbs just to see if it's more solid in time. Bleeding wire is a very good alternative but like as you say, it must be change often enough...It's tends to twist. I no longer use fastach attach, i had too many struggles with that. A solid ring with a split ring it's perfect for me.Take care
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud 2 года назад
Hey, thank you, yes it does twist , but it’s not as bad steel wire. I like that it does twist a little , so it forces me to cut back or change , resulting in always a fresh knot and leader. By doing so the last pike that snapped me off was 10 years ago..and that was on single strand titanium.
@Noname-dd6ly

@@NorbertRenaud Titanium... I stopped definitly this stuff because you never know when it breaks. Too fragile and if a pliers is used it's worse. Bleeding wire is a really good compromise (to not tell the better) so thank you Norbert ;)

Thanks a lot! This sounds very reliable from you guy. I've heard about some connections with Albright but even at home this knot was not I am surching for. I think I've found my leader for the rest of my life. THANKS from me and also from my pikes I won't lose and they will have a chance to survive instead to die painful.

Nice Norbert that you make the video that we ask for. I ordered the bleeding wire out of UK because it is not to become in Germany. I'm surprised it's a very nice wire I'm using it with the perfection loop on both sides it works perfectly. Many thanks for the the tip and your great help.... Excuse my English I'm just a pike fly fishing "Kraut" 🙂... But I love your channel 👌🏻

Hello Norbert, nice video, thanks for sharing your experience. My experience is little different though. Fastach snaps I saw being pulled open by pike a few times. Very often I saw them being pulled out of shape or just giving free the fly castingwise! My clients lost many flies on them. Same holds true for all snaps I yet tested. When using titanium without snaps, there a) is less of a chance for the titanium to break at snap position (otherwise getting twisted around the snap here) and b) every fly change shortens the titanium causing to change it before it breaks. Also very important on titanium: 8Kg easily breaks castingwise, while 11Kg is fine unless you cast heavy flies in windy situations on distance. I never broke a pike on titanium and only one time saw a client break one off by using 8Kg titanium. Clearly Knot 2 Kinky is better than many others! About the Rapala Knot: It is different from the none slip mono loop. Rapala has one step more and the end catches weed + it gets tricky to shape small loops cause of pulling upwards not downwards like for the nsml knot. About hardmono and fc I have same conclusion as you have. About knot strength adding little polyurethan glue helps to increase strength between steel/titanium and fc/nylon. No critics, just some additional exp. after 20 years extreme pike fishing on fly rod. Kind regards Bernd

Hey Bernd, thanks hanks for your input, always good to hear from experienced anglers and guides. At the end the pike welfare is the most important, as long as the gear we use gets you close to 0% failure , that’s the main thing 😉😉

As always a very helpful video. I will give your version a shot! I think it also works for tube flies, because the yucatan knot is tied sooo quickly.
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud 3 года назад
Thank you! Yes it's a quick and solid knot.Just see how many turns you can get away with depending on the tippet material you use ;) Always check and pull before fishing .

Franchement top !

thanks so much but just a question why dont you use a perfection loop to link tippet and leader
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud 2 года назад
In a loop 2 loop connection , the wire will always win and cut the leader if put under pressure, a knot will have a much higher breaking point than loop to loop ;)

Bonjour Norbert, merci beaucoup pour le video (changing to english because it is easier for me)! Is the AFW “bleeding” a special type of the wire? Or is it just the colour? I have a hard time finding this version. Thanks a lot!
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud 2 года назад
Hey, bleeding wire is a multistrand stainless steel wire(1x7 ) , coated with red nylon. i get it from the US on ebay or straight from AFW: www.afwfishing.com/afw_products/C030RED-8.asp

Salut Robert, I like the concept of knotting everything. So I got the material (30lb) and started building the leader, but I my yucatan knot fails. I am pretty sure I tied it correctly and it looks good, but even once it is cinched down, I can slowly pull the knot apart, the mono slips through the wire. I tried several diameters and found no solution until I used thick fluorocarbon. This seems to be crucial for this connection: using fluo of a crucial diameter. Kind regards, Bastian
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud 2 года назад
@@betonk.2100 hey, thank you for your input, I use 30 and 40 lbs fluoro or mono for my leaders without any slipping of the knots .

And what happens if you hook somewhere? Wouldn't it break the line?
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud Год назад
If you pull hard on it it will break at the weak point ( the knot) but i usually manage to pull the snag up before that happens 😉

Thanks for the detailed video Norbert! I bought the Sink3 Sonar Titan Taper.. when i pull the green sinking part into the guides it is pretty loud.. i know you have the same line. What do you think does the sound bother them?
@NorbertRenaud

Thank you, I did not see any difference in my catch rate with the « louder» line. I don’t think it affects them much.

what the knot you use for wire and snap
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud Год назад
Non slip loop knot or rapala knot, no need to twist as much with wire compare to monofilament. I usual do a single to two turns max. More like a bowline knot 👍

Will this set up work for musky as well?
@NorbertRenaud
@NorbertRenaud 3 года назад
Yea should work fine, maybe if you have big ones about , push the wire to 40/50lbs.
