Hi Sean, your videos are truly entertaining and from a fellow RU-vid angler point of view, your video editing and eye for detail is just inspiring. Great content, informative and a joy to watch. Looking forward to your next episodes over the winter months.👍

I liked a video with a Squirmy Worm plug. May the Lord have mercy on my soul. Good to see you enjoying the back-end of the year. The blazing colours of Autumn and the wistfulness of approaching Winter combine to let one appreciate the beauty of it all. Well, that and the relative absence of midges....

Great video, nice to see u going over the flies your using! I think a box of PTN and hares ear is all anyone really needs lol
@SouthsideFlyFishing
@SouthsideFlyFishing 2 года назад
Cheers David! I couldn't agree with you more 😂. PTN on the point and Hares Ear on the dropper. In this video I actually switched flies and fished through that same run with a perdigon on the point and was able to pick up fish I'd covered with the pheasant tail. But I'm sure the smaller size is what fooled them, rather than the pattern. That Duracell can be so effective for grayling in the winter but seldom works for me the rest of the year. And the squirmy is only for when things get all dark and weird on the river 😂

Another lovely video Sean, such beautiful locations you find, I love the gold nuggets of information and help you dot throughout they certainly help and inspire me and I’m sure others who are less experienced in the various fly fishing techniques. I’m really looking forward to your winter videos, it’s my goal to catch my first ever grayling this winter from my local river. Keep up the good work. 👌
@SouthsideFlyFishing
@SouthsideFlyFishing 2 года назад
Cheers Tom! If there's one thing I've learned it's that with fishing there's no right or wrong ways of doing things. Just hope the tips help people get up and running with the sport. Good luck with your quest for a grayling this winter! They have a reputation for being easy to catch - not my experience at all! But finding them and fishing at the right depth is usually 90% of the battle, on rivers like the Clyde at least. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟

Superb. Production quality keeps increasing every video. Quality beats quantity every time. It’s definitely worth your time in the edit room. Thanks so much for the instructional info on the rig setup and how you handle the indicator - that was most welcome. Very good droneage near the power lines too. Keep at it - subs and views will keep going up.

@@SouthsideFlyFishingHi Sean I would agree, I prefer fishing on the Avon, I like more naturel places to fish. Regarding Bass fishing, I fish with a chap called Paul Haldenwang who has a company called Saltydog game fishing, he has a boat and fishes in and around Chicester harbour, it's a massive conservation area and bird sanctuary, a stunning place to fish, You also fish around the cost, Paul is a really nice bloke. You can shore fish there too, Orvis do a Saltwater flyfishing festival there each year in September, about £100 to join and you get to know the area and places to fish, last two days. @SouthsideFlyFishing
@SouthsideFlyFishing 2 года назад
Hi Neil. It’s rare to find a hatch in December in my neck of the woods. You get the odd BWO or midge coming off but the fish tend to be tight to the bottom. Small perdigons tend to work well if there are smaller flies about. A teeny drab FFly would do the business for anything on the surface at this time of year I’d say 🤙🏼

Hi Sean, As a nee fly fisher I have discovered your channel and simply awe inspired by your angling, videography and love for what you do! So just wanted say keep up the work! I’ve noticed from a few videos that you mention you do not use barbless hooks, can I please ask why? I’ve inherited around 100 flies but they’re all barbed.
@SouthsideFlyFishing
@SouthsideFlyFishing 2 года назад
Hi Louis, great to have you aboard, and delighted to hear you're enjoying the videos. I use barbless hooks all the time these days because I believe they promote fish welfare. Barbed hooks can do quite a lot of damage even to a smaller fish, and I even prefer to cut my line rather than perform surgery on a deeply hooked fish. I do lose a good few fish and there's even an argument that if you're so concerned for their wellbeing, why put a hook in them at all 😂. But that's my thinking re barbs. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟

Great video iam mainly a Stillwater fisher but I really look forward to watching your videos tell where do I start to take up river fishing i.e where do you get your permits what is a good starting rod/reel and can anyone fish the Clyde ? Cheers David.
@SouthsideFlyFishing
@SouthsideFlyFishing 2 года назад
Cheers David! There are at least 4 angling clubs that manage fishing on the Clyde. This stretch is controlled by UCAPA and you can find out more about permits on their website: www.ucapaltd.com/freshwater.html. The other clubs are Mid-Clyde, Lamington and Hozier. A good rod/reel combo for the rivers would be something like a 9ft 5wt rod and a floating fly line. That would cover most types of fishing on the rivers. If you're on a budget, the new Shakespeare rods are good value for money. I also like the Redington Classic Trout rods. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣

@SouthsideFlyFishing
@SouthsideFlyFishing 2 года назад
Alistair, you're a gent! Andy and Ieva are proper RU-vidrs, so it's flattering to be mentioned in the same breath. Believe it or not, I've never fished the Tweed! But the rivers are so similar in profile, I'm confident that all the flies that work on the Clyde will do the business on the Tweed too. Some will disagree but with grayling I honesty believe locating the fish and presenting the fly to them at the right depth is 90% of the battle. The usual nymph patterns all seem to work fine for me 👍🏼. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
