It this on the water episode Rick, along with his friend, demonstrate how to fish the bead headed micro-leech in shallow clear water. They are often sight fishing, and are able to land numerous native cutthroat and rainbow trout.

Nice video. As a lifelong fisherman who moved to CR a few years ago from Manitoba, I find lake and river fishing here less than sad and very boring. All day long for a few tiny trout is not comparable to anywhere I've fished back East. I miss the lakes and rivers of Eastern Canada.

I agree that the differences are there. Perhaps the salmon fishing on the fly may be more up your alley. It still takes time to locate the best times and places, but the adrenaline makes up for it.

@rickjanzen2180 - Oh, I've done the salmon runs here many times. I have some videos of it on my channel. It is a rush, but I still miss the heavily places that are littered across the eastern parts of this beautiful country we are lucky enough to call home.

😂 If you’re fishing a lake or a river on Vancouver Island and only getting a couple small trout you do t know what you’re doing. The fellow who filmed the video discussed how he didn’t come to the lake for the reason of catching lots of big fish. He wanted to spend a nice sunny day surrounded by beautiful scenery. Us guys in BC are happy when prairie guys don’t like fishing here as there is too many as it is

@@roblockhart8410 - It's not your fault you don't know what you're talking about. I can't really hold ignorance against you.

Island lakes are 'oligotrophic', or nutrient poor. not a lot of limestone to leach minerals into the water, and high rainfall results in low micro nutrients in our lakes, and therefore low micro bugs, and low big bugs. many people call our rivers 'barren', which is untrue but definitely low trout populations. big lakes like Buttle have substantial fish, (bows and cutties) and some very large cutties but they are not easy to catch. i did a canoe trip last year in MB (Manigotagan) and the fishing was incredible. constant walleye and smallmouth on the line, and lots of pike. our fishery is definitely a whole different animal than MB/ON fishing. now the interior lakes of BC (especially around hwy 24 the fishing hwy) are different again. very high nutrients, very buggy, and abundant large trout.

Thanks. I'm still learning and attempting to produce the best videos I can with the equipment I have. I hope I am improving.
