Well done lads. The video depicts the reality of guiding. You did well young man, don’t give any thought to the negative comments from the armchair anglers. You caught some beautiful fish 👍
Mike and his friends are the best, and Nelson is a fantastic town to begin or end a SI trip. Last March was pure trout magic. Hope to be back soon! Glad the dead of winter is upon you so we can hopefully expect more fine fishing videos.
@@bromcoenraads7590 Is it the fisher or the man part you don't like about the word fisherman. Besides, it's angler, not Angler. If you enjoy being negative and elevating yourself above others, you might want to try to be right yourself first.
This video is absolute torture for any self-respecting fly fisherman, watching those monster browns sip cicadas that slowly! Fabulous filming job, one of the best fly fishing films I have seen in a long time!
Id love to do this.. but im too old now... and unfit at 70 years old.. wonderful footage.. it had been a dream of mine.. just not fit enough to do it😢 such beautiful fish.. well, done, guys
That was another great watch that one. I enjoy these long video over an hour too especially with the quality of your footage. I felt sorry for the guy in the rubber like footwear he had, on them stones it was always going to be uphill battle. Them great solid meals you brew up too look very satisfying indeed to sit in front of after a big day. awesome stuff Mike.
In fairness the lad fishing did a good job, I would undoubtedly be the same when hitting into Fish that big in fast flowing and obstacle strewn water, I really enjoyed the film even though I did giggle a few times, GREAT Video........
Great video with plenty of exciting action. Beautiful scenery. New Zealand is at the top of my bucket list for fly fishing destinations I would like to visit.
Just got a bunch of fly fishing gear and can't wait to get out and have a go also I'm mainly course fishing angeler so this would be a blast in the summer time when the water levels drop and go for pike and them hard fighting trouts
That was great; Brier should remember that day and river for a long time. Well shot and got to the point so many great fish had to take a break! My NZ trip cancelled this month..., Anyway, good fishing made to look easy but I know it's not!! Thanks for the video...love those NZ rivers and might pop out into the park to practice casting!!! Stay well and l0ok forward to getting over to the south island next season regds, Dave Metz
David Metzenthen Thanks Dave for the kind and positive words, there have been a few idiot trolls of late so nice to get a positive and appreciative point of view!
Wow ! Those big old fish seem to have never seen a fishing fly before !! Beautifull river an d beautifull fish anyway !! I'm a bit jealous of that guy ;D
Another great video Mike.. I’m lucky enough to get to Anchorage most months and fish Salmon, Rainbows and Grayling but your Browns are something else. One day I’ll get down there.
Could someone please explain to me why New Zealand only has massive trout? I've never seen anyone catch a 2 pounder in NZ. And why is the fishing always so great at 2 in the afternoon? I see these guys in NZ catching 8 lb browns with a wet fly at 2:30 in the afternoon. This NEVER happens here in North America. This is a fly fisherman's dream!! Great video!
Best bridge trout I've yet seen. Great video. Easy for us couch critics to nit pick - the young lad did well. BTW really nice use of the drone, far too much pointless drone footage these days
Cheers, yeah there's always a bridge fish somewhere... I agree on the drone stuff, it needs to add to the story. Its much like underwater go-pro fish releases, everyone shoves the camera underwater. Folks justifying the cost of the gear i guess - just because you can, doesn't mean you should...
Top videos👍👍the views the water and the trout big trout!!!Class. Not that big here in Ireland apart from the salmon.. catch and release lad my self. Nz a big must do sometime😀 👍👍
I'd have appreciated some discussion of the leader/tippet being used (length/size) and the flies used. Otherwise...just an extraordinary few days of fishing. I've NEVER seen so many big fish in one river.
struck2soon cheers Andy, yeah I hate the cursed folding nets. I only got him to use it as I was filming and he wanted to net them himself, thought the long handle would work...
mikefsher I remember we reached breaking point with those bloody things a few years ago. Ended up throwing one in the river after yet another lost fish. Used the fixed type since, the slight awkwardness of carrying is a worthwhile compromise compared to losing fish.
Great clip Mike, that was a big edit!! Beautiful water and some great fish in very trying conditions, good Ole Meridian doing its thing aye!! A pair of G3's woudn't have gone a stray either judging by some of those falls. Excellent guiding with your client to get him into some very nice Browns. Keep up the good work mate.
Hey mike my name is Casey and I’m from Utah I catch some great fish on the fly but them browns are spectacular awesome fishing what does a trip like this run in price?
Casey Olson hi Casey, simplest way is to check out my website www.latitudeguiding.co.nz which has all of the pricing and info you'll need. Be quick though if you're serious as I book up well in advance. Cheers and thanks!
Great video again, wow! I've asked before but never got an answer yet, why do you wear the black long johns or tights, why not just wear pants, just wondering while planning my trip.....must be a reason. Glad to see him get a better net for the latter half of the video!
Magnetic net release. Why don't people use it more? SO EASY! And that net sucks in so many ways. Excellent video, though. Glad he didn't kill himself in those boots.
@@mikefsher Wow that's crazy, I'd think since you're consistently catching 7 to 10 lb fish and casting into the wind you'd use at least a 6 weight! I'm surprised at the light tippet too!
Good lord, the average size of those browns is ridiculous! Are there no small trout in New Zealand? Never saw browns so easy to hook and so hard to land - and they like to jump!
Fantastic fishery and awesome videography. Beautiful scenery. I want to go there so badly. Why did you guys have the backpacks on during the day fishing? Looks like some great equipment out there, especially all the fishing clothing Brier was wearing. What's with the AIG shorts, though?
Typical angling snobbery regarding the sportswear should he be wearing Simm's?? ! I didn't think fish had a fashion conscience!! I can only assume the back packs are for camping as they are on a 3 day camping hike to cover the waters! I don't think your tuks or dicky bow would be appropriate attire for the occasion lol!!
Good afternoon: my name is Pablo Gonella and I am Argentine. I wanted to know if there is a possibility to work as a fishing or hunting guide in New Zealand. I have Italian citizenship.
I want to interview you, the end of the fly fishing and continue to release, is not very fulfilling and at the same time, I have a great, the lake in the video is relatively late, so that you can use a variety of fishing gear for fly fishing, you have a variety of fishing I use the brands Shimano, Daiwa, Accurate, maxcatch, I hope to share them together.
Doua Her Nice comment mate. He’s not trying to be a great fisherman. He’s having fun. Strange concept for you to grasp obviously given that completely unnecessary comment that only serves to show you don’t get it. Also for the record Brier catches a lot of big fish back in the US, it’s s different game here with 20ft leaders at times. Could you do it in that wind... hmmmm.
Doua Her, what a stupid comment. The man is having fun and catching big wild trout while you’re there typing absolute bollox on your iPad. Why dont you go out and record a video of how ‘good’ you are. Try do it quickly though, I’d rather not have daisies growing out my arse when I’m watching it.
Hi mike your videos are envious to say the least. I have a couple of questions for you if you don’t mind. What is the neoprene looking layer that you guys wear under those short pants, and what is the weight of them please?
Been fly fishin for 30 years, from my home in Minnesota, to Colorado, Montana, Pennsylvania, Bahamas, Bolivia & Mexico. I always wanted to fly fish in NZ. This footage moved NZ to the top of my bucket list! You're a great guide and photographer!
Hey Mike, anyone who trolls your stuff is a deadbeat. Wonderful videos and you always take great care of the fish and rivers. I'll buy you a beer one day {Speights)! regds, DM
Really enjoyed your video! Thanks. I use to watched my dad fly fishing when I was young and this summer, out of the blue, my 10 year old boy asks me to take him fishing! I’m absolutely loving the learning process with him at my side! He was born a few week after I lost my dad to cancer. Inspiring work, beautiful fishing, thanks again!
Keep at it Robert. Not too sure where you live but make sure you get out as often as possible weather and fishing regulations permitted. Get yourself a GoPro if you don't already have one and start documenting the experiences with your son too, both for learning from mistakes and great catches and of course just for sitting around and watching when the fishing isn't available....cheers!
I always love watching these vids when im down in the dumps, waiting for the season to open and i'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms!! Thank you mike for sharing your experiences!! we can only live in hope that some day i'll wet a fly on these waters again!! Keep up the good work, always in admiration, respect!!
That net.. that net, them shoes that white top & that waist buckle BUT what skills in a whole bunch of difficult situations & some situations and micro moments that could have just as easily gone the other way- Nailed the big fish with the view from looking from the gorge bridge, sick footage and epic water~
This is not really true...experience is a thing that it's close in time. I think all fishermen needs a lot of failures and observation to make good things in fly fishing. The fly guide could tell you and teach you many things but the best thing for any fly fisherman is to go to the river near his home with anything in his mind, just to learn from the river. This is the best advice I can give you. The best teacher is the river. Sorry for my english...
Great video Mike, I really liked the low drone shot moving up river. I hope we get some good weather and good fishing like this when we meet you in December. Can’t wait!
His neck is getting burnt. The backpack, boulders everywhere. Torture! But when one is fishing and catching big trout who cares. I'm relaxing watching this fun. Going to watch more more more.
