Part one of our annual family camping trip. The fishing is always good, but this trip was INSANE! For three days straight, we experienced a non-stop bit fishing from shore. We fished nymphs under a bobber the whole time, but that's only because that's what we started with and the fish never stopped biting so we never even changed flies. The top producer was a black leech with a pink bead.

Pretty big. Bigger than I usually use. They were tied on size 10-8 jig hooks. About 2.5 inches in length from bead to tail.

It’s a #3 Echo Shadow euro rod. It throws a 5 weight scientific anglers Anadro line extremely well. And the 10-10.5 foot length is ideal for lakes. It’s my favorite all-around rod. Great for dry-dropper rigs as well.

How do you set up a nymph if rod for still water? Never really got it correct for nymph if still water

The right leader set up makes a HUGE difference. I like to start with a tapered leader and only use the first 2-3’ of the thick end as the butt section of my leader. Then I tie on a tippet ring (or micro-swivel). From that point, I typically attach a 10-15’ piece of level tippet, usually 10-12 lb. On the end of that, I attach another tippet ring or swivel. From that second tippet ring or swivel, I attach two pieces of my lighter tippet, usually 5-8 pound, and then my flies. I have a video of this which I made specifically for pyramid lake, but it’s basically the same setup I use while nymphing any stillwater.
