Been awhile since I caught a fish! Was skunked striper fishing up in norcal. So decided to take a quick trip to some new water. The Salt river runs straight through Phoenix. If you haven't been to Phoenix in the summer, it's something to experience. It's usually a "warm" water bass river but during the winter it gets cool enough to hold stocker trout. Pretty area and literally right outside of town.

Just curious on the gear used; I’m pretty new to trout fishing on the fly, and want to try out the lower salt river and bigger rivers like this Is that a 6 wt fishing a wooly bugger? Ive fished the e verde, Christopher creek, with my 3 wt fishing a size 14 bugger with good luck. Couldn’t get them to bite a dry fly in these creeks though. I’ve had luck with drys in small streams in the southern ca mtn streams though; is there something different between the two you’ve noticed?

I used a 5 wt here but yeah a 6 will work and give you more options on streamers. I’ve seen other sections that have more traditional runs that you can probably nymph. One note on the salt…I heard it’s very stocking dependent. So try to target when they stock.
