In this series, I'm Fly Fishing Wyoming. The trip started in the Bighorn National Forest. Wyoming is truly a special place full of outdoor adventure and for the next two weeks, I'll be living out of my truck exploring the area. A map is definitely needed (get one at the Fly Shop Bighorns in Sheridan), cell service and mapping apps don't line up. There are unlimited dispersed camping options available in the area, as well as National Forest campgrounds if you prefer developed sites. It was a great time, looking forward to exploring more of it next year! Part 2 below...

Love my Wyoming 💜 My Grandfather worked for the Forest Service in the Bighorns, during the 50's/60's he helped build many of the forest Service roads. We did quite a bit of fishing in the70's...On the Shell/Greybull side..mainly in the smaller brooks..(since we were little kids).. We would clean the fish.and take them back to camp..grandma would cook them in cast iron skillet over the fire. With fried potatoes, and Corn on the Cob.....Yum😋 If I could only go back in time...🎣

Hoping you can recommend the most effective sunglasses for both Wisconsin and Wyoming conditions. I tend to favor smaller streams but fish both wooded areas and open pasture etc. What do you like for lens type, lens colors, and any other factors to help see the best I can. Very cool...I do like seeing the rattle snakes from a distance. Just not on uneven ground where I could be off balance. Never considered the moose really, but have heard similar stories about their unpredictable behavior. Had a buddy meet me for a few days and we unknowingly, walk up within 25 yds of a big bull, fortunately it went the other direction....but those hooves clicking on the rocks was creepy!

I hear ya. My snake encounter was on very steep terrain. If i wasn't paying attention it probably could've been bad. That is a very close encounter with the moose. Crazy how much bigger they look up close.

@LooknFishy

There really are! I believe you're referring to what most call a strike indicator. In this case, it was yarn that basically lets me know when a fish takes the fly. I have a video in my channel that goes through the types of indicators I use and why. Might be worth a watch but feel free to email me or ask any questions you have. Don't have all the answers but will share anything I've learned.

Do you find that you feel the takes when nymphing before seeing the strike indicator or vice versa? I've never really used one. I use a braided loop connector that's a different color than the line so I kinda watch that but I usually feel the takes first if I'm keeping the slack out of the line. I guess I'm just not sold on a bobber on a fly line...
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 года назад
No, usually have slack thrown in to get a natural drift so I rely on watching the indi move!

Interesting. I back-country fly fish in Idaho all the time, and always wondered if my bear spray would be enough.
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 года назад
IMHO, my thoughts are mostly yes...but there might be that one time it doesn't work and I'm forced to fend off a predatory attack. Especially with a black bear! Grizz...spray would absolutely be my first choice. Difference being w/ a handgun, you probably just need to hurt a black bear to deter the attack. Grizz...you're going to have to kill it and that would be super challenging with a handgun. Actually saw a black bear on this trip and the speed that he left the trail and climbed over the ridge was amazing...he was gone in 20secs. It would have taken me 20 mins to climb that ridge....I reached for the spray as my first option and would do it again.
