Nice realistic tie Jim! Golden stones are probably my favorite nymph to look at. Gotta love the detail in the abdomen and wing cases. Not to mention they catch big fish!

This product reminds me of painting by numbers...yes you get a nice painting, but it takes all of your own creativity out of play. I love Jim's videos but this product will never be on my bench!!

Nice Stone Fly Jim. But I think that the lead wire is more than you need. Оtherwise the fly is perfect and perfect performance, realistic tie Jim. Nice tie. Thank you. All the best. Miro

The Lead can be adjusted for different depths and currents. AS stone flies are mostly found in fast water. Thanks Miro!

Great realistic pattern! I've always had trouble with stone flies and used rubber bodies in the past. They dried out and got brittle and fell apart quickly. I'd be very interested in cost of these materials, source and a follow up longevity video.

Tommy, I understand what your saying according to the manufacturer that are UV resistant so I would say they will pretty long. Jim

Wow those look excellent so realistic. So I'm not a huge trout fisherman, I don't really have a lot of good opportunities to get them here. But I was wondering is that a winter/early spring pattern? Or when would this one be used?

Stone flies can be found year round in rivers and streams. They are found in faster water but not exclusive to cold water. You can find them in many warm water rivers.

What size bodies and legs did you buy? Small, medium or large Still debating on whether or not to spend $9 shipping for $11 worth of products for ten flies.
@TheFlymanJim
@TheFlymanJim 10 лет назад
You have a point there. This fly was tied with medium body part. They all come in small, medium and large. For my waters medium and small would work best. I have all sizes. I'm going to make a dry fly today. So you can see what the wings look like. Jim

Nice job. Makes it a lot easier. Maybe you can report back how it fishes.

What size hook would you use for the small bodies? Thanks
@TheFlymanJim
@TheFlymanJim 7 месяцев назад
I usually hold the hook to the parts to determine the right size.

How does this fish vs. cheaper and much quicker generic/traditional pattern?
@TheFlymanJim
@TheFlymanJim 9 лет назад
Brooktrout Angler You can tie the more traditional stonefly and have success. I like the Hemingway patterns for a more realistic pattern. If your looking for a realistic pattern I would say Hemingway is way to go.

Hans, You can get them from Frosty Fly dot com this shop is from Canada. It only took three days for it to get to Pennsylvania from Toronto.

More like model making than fly tying.
@TheFlymanJim
@TheFlymanJim 3 года назад
Yes your right about that. But the difference between these and other realistic patterns is that these catch fish.
