You are one of the finest fly tiers on the internet. I'd cringe to fish most of your flies. They belong in a frame on the wall. Simply excellent work and use of different materials to really imitate nature
Dude, you are one of this generation’s great artists in fly tying…I hope the wider community comes to that conclusion at some point. With regards to this fly, I occasionally fish a tailwater with large, highly selective trout (anyone from Massachusetts knows exactly where I’m talking about) and this is the ticket for days when they’re on a scud bite…
Thank you so much my friend, I really appreciate that, I am a bit busy this year and have not been uploading much but soon I will be updating more new patterns Regards Mak
Got some inspiration from another one of your scud fly videos. I had a go with various materials I have and got myself two rainbow trout at the weekend. The day was difficult and people were surprised I caught fish on them. Just goes to show that when they want something different, it pays to have a few in stock. Tight lines and thanks for the content.
Nice Mak. Takes time to make this one, but I bet the fish are gonna like it. Thank you for showing me how to make your freshwater shrimp. HAPPY NEW YEAR!🦐🦐🌴🎣
Hey Mak! Nicely tied freshwater shrimp! I like the way you added the legs, have to try that. I use a composite loop (two ostrich herls and a bit of soft hackle fibers) for adding the "fuzzy stuff" to the scud. Gotta love that UV resin - wonder how we ever got along without it. Cheers! Hank
Thank you Hank , I know what you mean, sound good I will try that soon, I have seen the picture of actual Shrimp, they are really transparent, so I tied the closest imitation , Thank you for the nice comment 😊 😊 😊 Regards Mak
Amazing fly, thank you! Here are alot of gammarus pulex in our rivers, i think over 90% fish food are that gammaruses in fall. they looks just like that. You can be sure i'll tie flies a lot like that for my fishing😄👍
Just tied my first- I couldnt get on with the mono, so I stuck with the white thread and it looks fine (OK- I'm not a trout). One hint- some UV sparkles are a bit tougher than others. I found the Kindale was too fine for this particular job - the Veniard glister sparkle dubbing was much easier as its a little coarser.
Hey Makflies. Gorgeous little shrimp pattern there and great video! Can you help me with more info on the 'clear stretch elastic' like the specific brand name or send me a link to where I can get it? All I can find is tubing.
Thank Danny, I really appreciate that, you can buy it on ebay or Google ( Clear Stretch Beading Elastic ) you will find lot's of it, they come in different colours :))
Very new to tying flies but this one is rather interesting and I'd like to try. I wanted to know if the finished fly is hard or somewhat flexible. It seems to me that a hard shell would deter a fish from biting. Maybe not.
Thank you Pete,, I am glad you like it, It is hard from the top, but it does not make any difference , fish will still take it,, most of Fly Patterns are Hard Regards Mak 😊 😊 😊
they dont know that till they take the fly and then they should be hooked already. This will catch fish, but you could use soft uv glue for this, but like mak said, its not needed.
I like this. Was thinking if you don't pull as tight around the mid section of the shank it will create taller segments in this area and maybe a little less resin so the segments stand out a little more? Anyhow, thanks!
I know what you mean , I have created a transparent shell on top which looks realistic underwater & make this fly more effective, If you look at the actual Shrimp they don't really have visible segmentation :)
@@Makflies this is true, I have to admit I don't have a tank to view my flies underwater, my perception is a human one, lol, which is undoubtedly not the same as the fish's perception!
@@Makflies…….I'm going to try to make some of these. I was wondering if using a white chenille dubbing layer over the lead would save some on the UV sealer and add a little light to the interior? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for the video.
Beautiful Shrimp..Will be checking all the vids you've posted. I need to purchase a UV setup and saw you use Bug off Resin. May I ask what UV lite you would recommend??? Beautiful....
Thank you Mark, Sorry for late replying, Some of my Comments Notifications aren't coming through, I am using ( Blue & Purple UV Laser Pointer Pen ), you can order from ebay :)) Regards,,,Mak
