Very nice tie. Davy McPhael taught me to ALWAYS wax the thread before tying in the hackle to prevent it from pulling out.

If you preen the feathers from the tip of the feather rather than strip them from the base, then clip the tip to make a small tie-in anchor triangle (I'm sure you've seen Tim Flagler do this) the feather rarely pulls out. Then you have the stem as makeshift hackle pliers to palmer the feather! Great fly love your vids!

Fancy flies are... fancy; simple flies like this soft hackle consistently put fish in the boat. Fish like them - so do I! Thanks for sharing!

Love soft hackles. I first learned tying them with Sylvester Nemes. Great detail on the macro shot too. Looks like a fun pattern to swing. Thanks for posting -TWF

LOL! - That happens to all of us- yep - those precious tying moments. Thanks for the video(s). I just started filling a soft hackle box and I believe I'll be adding these. I'm hoping no "bleeps"occur while I wrap the hackle on mine! :)

Replace that squirrel thorax with one made out of UV shrimp pink Ice Dub and you've got a killer lake pattern that has worked great for me in slightly stained water at turnover, or in low light. Love you guy's videos.

Trulen Cates Nature Spirit makes biots? What kind of material do they use? Are they durable?

@@mrrichards6007 well they dont actually make the biot, that's the animals job. They have goose and turkey biots, that they dye alot of colors and sell.
