Callibaetis are key for most any stillwater (lake, reservoir or pond). The Wally Wing is a killer wing style that suits this pattern very nicely.
Hook: Fulling Mill Ultimate Dry Fly Hook, Barbless - 14

I've recently been tying wally wings in as parachute posts. Probably my new favorite post material. I haven't had any trouble when peeling the 1 or 2 fibers down to split the wings either, which was an initial concern of mine when I first tried the technique. It makes for some awesome looking parachutes. I haven't seen anyone use wally wings as a post before, but ya'll should definitely try it. Great video as always

Great looking fly thanx for the pattern and material list.😊 PS Take two fibres from the feather NOT 1 not 3 but 2 . I just tied some Wally wing flies today and all of them at least one fibre broke off .Having the extra fibre allows you to finish the wing. I will tie some with Hackle and some with CDC.

Nice seeing a wally wing patteren that isn't a spinner. I steam and fold mine upwards to get concave shape. Another great video, tight lines.

Wally wings were hard to get right in the beginning but after around 20-25 attempts through the years they become straight forward and really simple. I always pull 2 fibres down not 1 or 3 but 2 fibres and always perfect 👍🏻

Je mo.te également des Wally wing mais avant.t tout je fait mes aile avant de monter les cerque et le Corp car si mes ailes se déchire je n'ai pas besoin de tout. Beau montage recommencer

Sometimes the turkey quill will fray or break all together .What I do is soak them in a bath for a few minutes (if doing a bunch) or put one in my mouth and wet it before tying it down to the shank of the hook. Tight lines guy's.

What I do for the tail is have a 4" piece of thread handy and come up under the curve of the hook on both sides ,come up through the split tails, bring both ends toward the eye of the hook along the top of the hook since it down with thread wraps 2 times loosely ,now pull the tag ends of the thread and you will see the tails naturally split apart. When satisfied how wide you want them split go ahead and tie down the thread tightly. Those tails will never come together now.

Can't seem to get mine to orient that way. The wings always end up looking flat from side profile and "open" from a front or back view

thank you for sharing! This pattern looks way cool but also looks like it takes some time. Without all of the teaching that you did in the video, how long does it take you to make this pattern?

Definitely not a beginner pattern. Honestly, I never time myself tying. If I'm having a good time and the flies catch fish...then I'm all good regardless of how long a pattern might take.

Good point, I don't time myself either. I really like that Wally Wing, does it work with other types of feathers also?
